Which Old-Fashioned Baptist Preacher would you like to meet or sit under? Past or Present. Living or Deceased.

What qualifies as a "good" Billy Sunday sermon ?

I do not know how far back you would care to go in the past , but I would have loved to have heard Christmas Evans , John Gill and John Brine . In more modern times I would have immensely valued the preaching of A.W. Pink .

I'm not saying "good" as in good or bad. All the sermons I have read of his (which are a lot since I worked at the Sword) are great. I simply use that word to add enthusiasm to the statement.

Maybe I should answer my own post. I would love to meet and hear Billy Sunday, J. Frank Norris, and Curtis Hutson.

I'd love to hear J. Frank Norris in person, in spite of his character flaws. I've recently read some of his preaching. That man could preach, and had a love for the salvation of souls. And any Baptist, it seems, would want to hear Spurgeon.

Going way back into church history, I would love to have heard the famed John Chrysostom (347-407 AD), nicknamed "Golden Mouth."

I have had the privilege of hearing some of the best Baptist preachers of the 20th century: John R. Rice (countless times), Tom Malone, Lee Roberson R. G. Lee preaching "Payday Someday," J. Harold Smith preaching "God's Three Deadlines", Fred Brown, Bill Rice, Bob Jones (Sr., Jr., III, though I don't remember Sr.), Myron Cedarhold, Monroe Parker (greatest sermon ever on Hell), etc.

I dunno, were Spurgeon, Paul and Olford as good as John R. Rice? :love2:

I think Rice wrote the book of Hebrews.

Id like to hear Doc Cedarholm once more. I must have heard him preach at least once at Maranatha, but being young I did not realize who I was hearing.

We had an evangelist, Dennis Corle, at our church this last week. He sells a CD with a bunch of different old-time preachers on it.......actual voices! Men like J. Frank Norris were on it, Lester Roloff, etc. We were going to get one, but they were all gone very quickly!

Then there's Tom Malone, Billy Sunday, Bob Jones Sr., and John R. Rice.
