The White House President George W. Bush

I am very proud of our Military and the success they have accomplished in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am very thankful for the sacrifice and commitment by our brave men and women. Our commitment makes me proud to be an American. I am continually in awe of the will of the Iraqi people and the determination as they fight alongside our troops and allies and their resolve to create a democracy in Iraq.

The biggest mistake Bush has made is that he has let others define our performance in Iraq. Unfortunately, we live in a time when acting on conviction and doing the right thing are easily over come by partisan demagoguery. Worse yet, Bush faces a hostile press that has expressed more or less contempt for him since he stopped being a joke and began to be a serious candidate in his first campaign.

Clinton masterfully manipulated the media... though admittedly they were more sympathetic to him (voting about 85% for him). He always fed them spin through multiple outlets. The talking points came from throughout the party, government, and media. He always got there first with his side of the story... in gross volume.

I wish Bush were Reagan... but sadly he is not. He is however his own worst enemy for not realizing how necessary "war rooms" for information control are in the modern White House.

I wished we had not gone to war in Iraq. I just don't like seeing our fellow citizens dying for Iraq's freedom. But at the same time those who insist America is losing the war or any such thing are not only wrong but 1. ignorant or 2. stupid. *sigh* Please forgive my rant.

DeclareHim, We won the war nearly two years ago. Don't you remember, "Mission Accomplished"? The Iraqi army was defeated and soon afterwards we drug Saddam out of his hidey-hole. Iraq has been liberated from Saddam & the Ba'athists - they wrote a constitution and elected a parliment.

We won the war; now we're occupying.

We're occupying, because if we leave, something much worse than Saddam will take over.

It's one of those traps that are easy to get into, and hard to get out of.

The majority of Iraqis want us there and need our help. We should not abandon them as you would like us to do. We are committed to a greater cause. Do either of you personally know any Iraqis? I do and they do not share your views.

We are there until the Iraqis are ready to take over their own country. BTW, are we also still occupying Germany and Japan. I say, bring the troops home from Germany and Japan...NOW! :D

I'm torn on that. On the one hand I'd like to miff Germany by making them and the rest of Europe actually be responsible for their own defense. On the other hand I think it isn't a bad idea to have a continued presence in Germany because there has been a lot of antisemitic sentiment simmering there.

Your wish is happening, if not quite now. The Army is in the process of moving 50,000 troops back to the U.S. from Germany and Korea. After the moves are finished, the Army will have permanent full brigades (a fairly small deployment) only in Germany, Korea and Italy. The Marine Corps also will cut in half its personnel in Okinawa.

Of course, those forces are not occupying Korea, Japan or Germany. They're primarily forward-stationed forces meant to respond to issues in those regions quickly.
