I was just wanting to get some opinions and insight into a particular piece of scripture. Look at 2 Samuel 6:20-23 - David is bringing in the ark, and Michal essentially snaps at him cause she thinks he is acting in a way unbefitting of a King. Well David reproves her and then she is made childless until the day of her death, which back then a woman was shunned and humiliated when they could not have children.

Now bear with me on this one. I see something here that I believe is a problem in our society. The other day when I was out shopping and visiting getting ready for some things at the church God has called me to Pastor, I noticed alot of ladies who would outright snap at their husbands showing a (if you will) lack of respect for them. IT dawned on me our society as a whole has downgraded the role of a father to 3rd or 4th priority in terms of respect in families. I believe there was two reasons why God punished Michal here:

    1) Her spiritual shallowness and Insensitivity

    2) Her putting rules of society over God rules in term of what was allowed.

    3) her lack of respect for David in the way she snapped at him

No matter how we look at it the word of God calls for respect of fathers and husbands. In Ephesians 5 starting at verse 23 he states for wives to be submissive. And when I see a wife or child snap at their husband and father respectively, I have to ask myself, Have we messed this up as far as roles in our families?

P.S. Let me say I agree women are just as valuable to Jesus as men, but I believe there is a order of roles in the family, and I see our society going against God's Word on this one.

    Any insights? :jesus:

It shows how well and what the older ladies are teaching the younger ladies.

    That's the whole problem, gb

Two problems as a whole that fits our Christian hand like a glove

---the older women are NOT teaching the younger

---what is being taught is being rejected

I completely agree and I admit I struggle at times with this. I totally respect my husband but there ARE times I snap at him and I need to ask forgivness when that happens. But in general, young people (not just girls) are not being taught respect for authority at all - that authority is nothing important nor worthy of respect - so that's going to carry over into a marriage. Also, look at just about any movie or TV program that kids watch - the fathers are ALL idiots. They show that there's not reason TO respect a father because they're just dumb.

    It's very sad.

For 30 or more years ALL the movie examples of 'true love' involve adultery, divorce, and other bad relationships.

Now they are acting like Anna Nicole wasn't a porn star. One woman during an interview objected that being in a porn magazine and being a stripper was not being in porn.

Maybe the good ole' days weren't great . . . but, they were a little bit better.

No insights, but an observation or two.

The text doesn't say God punished Michal. That she remained childless was fully under David's control; it did not require divine intervention.

David was not the best role model for father and husband. To me, it seems David was rather petulant in his approach to Michal, who once had risked her life to help David escape Saul, her father.
