What "Orwellian" really means – Noah Tavlin, 5:31, TED Ed[1]
"Orwellian" is an adjective describing a situation, idea, or societal condition that George Orwell identified as being destructive to the welfare of a free and open society. It denotes an attitude and a brutal policy of draconian control by propaganda, surveillance, disinformation, denial of truth (doublethink), and manipulation of the past, including the "unperson"—a person whose past existence is expunged from the public record and memory, practiced by modern repressive governments. Often, this includes the circumstances depicted in his novels, particularly Nineteen Eighty-Four[2] but political doublespeak is criticized throughout his work, such as in Politics and the English Language.[3]

"It sounds a little dystopian, I’ll grant. But let’s hear them out."

That he admits it sounds dystopian, yet wants everyone to hear these “experts” out is not a little telling. Bring on the Prime Minister of Propaganda. They can call their Ministry “Правда.”

What are they going to call their ministry? I am reading Princeton Professor Stephen Kotkin’s masterpiece on Stalin. The Stalinists remind me of the Democrats.

Exactly right. It was a reference to their propaganda newspaper.

Pravda, (Russian: “Truth”) newspaper that was the official organ of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1918 to 1991. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, numerous publications and Web sites continued under the Pravda name.
...
Pravda’s pages featured pleasing makeup, occasional photography, and attractive typography. It carried no Western-style scandal or sensational news; rather, it sought to encourage unity of thought on the part of its readers by stressing and interpreting the party line. Many of its editorials were reprinted in other Soviet and Soviet-bloc papers.

The miserable former citizens of the old Soviet Union had an expression – “There is no Pravda in Izvestiya and there is no Izvestiya in Pravda” – which, roughly translated, reads “There is no Truth in News and there is no News in Truth.” Pravda was the news organization of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union and Izvestiya was the news organization of the Soviet government. Pravda is “Truth” in Russian and Izvestiya is “News.”

I am 100 pages into 1800 pages of Stephen Kotkin’s Stalin and my opinion is that Stalin as a teenager was what we used to call socially maladjusted.

I always find it so incomprehensible how folks here who I assume have read 1984 or at least seen the film or the dozens of films influenced by it, and also aware of the Nazi, Soviet, CCP propaganda techniques, why they are so easily manipulated by those same techniques being used on them by their news sources and political leaders who often don’t even try hiding their use of those techniques. Some even feel it is their duty to propogate these obvious propaganda pieces after they have been shown to be obvious lies.

It is not an education problem so what is it? Why are people so willing to deceive themselves with information they know is false?

I hope you are feeling better.

Refusing to initially denounce white supremacy while given the opportunity to over and over again, saying there was violence on many sides then saying there are fine people on both sides and then finally relenting and condemning neo nazis is a textbook example of training his followers in doublethink.

PolitiFact - In Context: Donald Trump’s ‘very fine people on both sides’ remarks (transcript)

In the criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice inquiry, the evidence could not meet the standard of criminal conspiracy but did for obstruction of justice. Plenty of evidence of collusion was uncovered.

There was his public coordination

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump proclaimed. He added, “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

There was his private coordination with the Russians.

These 11 Mueller Report Myths Just Won’t Die

Myth: Mueller found “no collusion.”

Response: Mueller spent almost 200 pages describing “numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign.” He found that “a Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.” He also found that “a Russian intelligence service conducted computer-intrusion operations” against the Clinton campaign and then released stolen documents.

While Mueller was unable to establish a conspiracy between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians involved in this activity, he made it clear that “[a] statement that the investigation did not establish particular facts does not mean there was no evidence of those facts.” In fact, Mueller also wrote that the “investigation established that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome, and that the Campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.”

To find conspiracy, a prosecutor must establish beyond a reasonable doubt the elements of the crime: an agreement between at least two people, to commit a criminal offense and an overt act in furtherance of that agreement. One of the underlying criminal offenses that Mueller reviewed for conspiracy was campaign-finance violations. Mueller found that Trump campaign members Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner met with Russian nationals in Trump Tower in New York June 2016 for the purpose of receiving disparaging information about Clinton as part of “Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” according to an email message arranging the meeting. This meeting did not amount to a criminal offense, in part, because Mueller was unable to establish “willfulness,” that is, that the participants knew that their conduct was illegal. Mueller was also unable to conclude that the information was a “thing of value” that exceeded $25,000, the requirement for campaign finance to be a felony, as opposed to a civil violation of law. But the fact that the conduct did not technically amount to conspiracy does not mean that it was acceptable. Trump campaign members welcomed foreign influence into our election and then compromised themselves with the Russian government by covering it up.

Mueller found other contacts with Russia, such as the sharing of polling data about Midwestern states where Trump later won upset victories, conversations with the Russian ambassador to influence Russia’s response to sanctions imposed by the U.S. government in response to election interference, and communications with Wikileaks after it had received emails stolen by Russia. While none of these acts amounted to the crime of conspiracy, all could be described as “collusion.”

“The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them....To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies — all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth."
-- George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four

Trump knows that white supremacists make up a large portion of his base. So he needs to be able to officially condemn them while at the same time show them his affection.

Yet another lie. The actual number of white supremacsts in the US is so small it cannot show up on any percentage scale.

Chinese Communists tight money ties to Biden (collusions) and none of the MSM care. While Russia collusion is nothing but a political dead end diversion in comparison, begun by Hillary to use against Trump.

You wont hear on the main news networks anything except what they want you to hear. Biased propaganda arm of the LEFT they are.

Trump’s base is made up of deplorables and irredeemables. They are middle-class people who mostly work with their hands. They were thrown into poverty by globalism and the Great Reset.

Biden has already thrown a million people out of work by shutting down the pipeline from Alberta as well as the southern border wall. The price of gasoline has already risen as Biden is actively causing a recession.

You can add in working class people to the list. Democrats have become the party of the rich and elite and powerful. (media, other nations politicians, kings, queens)
Like Biden says, you aint black if you dont vote for him, is showing their perceived base support also includes racists themes. But those blacks after a few years of not getting what they want again, may not vote next time. A person like Abrams, is really just out for herself to gain power, you can tell that by how slavishly they support that party of the elite.

Democrats want the middle class decimated, the poor classes to increase and the rich to remain as they are, as long as the rich support them.

That statement demonstrates just how little people not living in America know about America, even those supposedly highly educated.

The disinformation spread by the Dem MSM is difficult even for many Americans to resist precisely because they are not very educated, or are so indoctrinated by their education that they avoid those sources that would open their eyes to the truth.
