Proposal would increase planets from 9 to 12

Actually, the proposals being 'debated' range from doing nothing, to cutting the number to eight, to increasing the number, with one to even go over 50. Whatever is done will be "cast in concrete" - er, that is, until another new discovery is made in the next six months.

I suspect these leading astronomers would compare rather favorably to you in terms of idiocy - at the very least, they seem to have a grasp of the topic.

Not entirely true, BTW. I know some very bright PhDs, who are conservatives, and quite a few who are libertarians.

Incidentally, this idea, if adopted, just makes official what astronomers have known for a long time. There is no hard division between planets and other bodies in the solar system.

 

yup, I'd be very embarrassed were I an astronomer. They've had it all figured out....til now

 

This has to do with defining what a planet is (Pluto has had very up and down status as a planet due to its size and orbit). They are calling Pluto and other smaller bodies "plutons." Plutons are still planets but differ from them in their size and orbit. Ceres, a body between Mars and Jupiter, I believe, and which was formerly a "dwarf planet," will be a pluton. And a planet/pluton further from Pluto was discovered: UB313

I am following this since I used to be an astrologer (astronomers hate astrologers, but astrologers keeps up with new things like this and absorb it into their practice) and it might affect astrology today, which is something my ministry deals with.
