Battery replacement cost...through the roof .
Plus their disposal or recycling is an issue I'd think.

If the grid ever goes down so too do EC's. While gas pumps would too there is at least a way to manual pump fuels if need be.

yeah, I've been thinking about purchasing one of these things, probably a hybrid, but I'm having second thoughts - it's not just about the battery, even though they create an environmental hazard in their own right, they are made of Chinese materials, don't want to help the CCP.

If I did go with one, it's going to be more of a toy. I do (well, did) a lot of long-distance traveling:

I rented an electric car for a 4-day road trip. I spent more time charging it than I did sleeping. | Fox Business

and that was just a rental, charging planned out which I couldn't do. Going to pass for the time being, something that expensive shouldn't be that annoying. And I don't want to run over the neighbors' cats and dogs with that silent engine.

In NY State as of 2035 no brand new gas engines can be sold after 2035
and that includes hybrids!!!

Interesting - most of these folks are so-called pro-choice when it comes to abortion
but when it comes to cars as well as many other things - the libs will not give me a choice.

Last year I traded in my 2013 Nissan Sentra and 2013 Nissan Rogue for a new 2021 Nissa Sentra. Since 8 years or so is generally about the time I buy a new car, I figure I won't have to consider the hybrid or electric issue until around 2030, the Lord willing. I'll just have to see how the electric grid, recharging stations, and costs are by then.

The way the Founders set things up, the states are supposed to vary on various issues and how they deal with them. That is not a bug in the system, it is supposed to be prominent feature. I wish we would get back to that and stop all of the unconstitutional activity that the federal government has involved itself in. I have a very restrictive view of the 14th amendment, as when I read(back at the time of the Obergefell decision) about what was being said when it was passed, I don't think it was intended to be so expansive as it has become.
