Protesters Detained While Ten Commandments Removed from School

    (West Union, Ohio-AP) -- Dozens of protesters locked arms
    and knelt in prayer Monday to hinder workers who had been ordered
    to remove giant Ten Commandments tablets from four Ohio schools.
    Several hundred people turned out to protest a federal
    judge's order to remove the commandments. Some initially blocked
    a crane from taking the 800-pound granite tablets.
    Deputies briefly took at least 30 protesters into custody,
    but later released them without filing charges.
    The Adams County school district is challenging the ruling
    that the displays violated the separation of church and state.
    That ruling last year followed a suit filed by the American
    Civil Liberties Union on behalf of a resident.
    The judge ordered the displays removed Monday, after the
    school year was finished.

    I personally don't have a problem with the Ten Commendemts displayed publicly, so long as they aren't displayed in a manner that would endorse a specific religion. I don't know if the display in this case did or not.

    I'm still undecided as to whether or not the display of the Ten Commandments is a violation of the Separation of Church and Stae clause. But, if it is, shouldn't we as Baptists, who are bound to adhere to the distinctive of supporting the Separation of Church and State, support their removal?

    The Ten Commandments are the Heritage of most countries. Even Egypt has a similar Coptic version of the Ten COmmandments that formed the historical basis of their society.

    The Ten Commandments should be proudly displayed, and Lets pray that people will understand why God wrote them, and what He can do for them in the modern age.

    I wonder what they did with them? I'd love to get my hands on one and stick it in the front yard. LOL That would be cool if we all could. I always pass a house that has a sign with the verse "the fool has said in his heart there is no God". It's been there for years and hasn't been ruined, but looks like it couldn't have cost too much. (it's not wood or stone)
