Question Abt Posting Rules

I can find it nowhere, but seem to remember something mentioned about it before- I think.

My question: Is it counter to BB rules to make accusations about another's salvation, or to be accused of following a false religion (without evidence) in the course of debate? This has happened to me a few times, and the moderators have let it pass each time.

Yep they let it pass often. even when it has been reported.

Thanks for the link to the rules.

I would say we have several who post often and are guilty of trolling. I seem to have collected a group of them.

The BB rules define trolling as:

No trolling. Trolling consists of provoking large volumes of responses by posting absurdities, deliberately offensive insults, etc.

As far as I can tell, though I have reported a fair number of the insults and name calling, nothing has been done about or to the trolls.

BB rules also say "no personal attacks."

Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Considering names I have been called and other vile statements to me I have no idea what is really meant by personal attack ... other than threats of violence.

My guess I will be reprimanded for this post. Oh well ....................

Thanks guys. I see I'm not alone.

There have been 3-4 times in the last few months I've had my salvation questioned, and I've been accused of being a cultist. The moderators let them all stand. A few weeks ago I called an individual a clown in a post, which was deleted. I should not have called him a clown on a public forum, but it seemed pretty mild compared to being accused of following a false religion. Seemed like the priorities of the standards of conduct were askew.

Anyway, I was just curious.

Ps- I am assured of my salvation and am baptist. For the record.

When I joined the board in '04, the tolerance for bad behavior was much lower than it is now. Now days people can question your salvation, call you names, hurl personal insults openly, and nothing is done about it. I've been called everything but late for dinner and the ones who did it are still here. :BangHead:

Perhaps this BB simply reflects our culture. There was a time when in our society when people who disagree with each other could have a civil discussion even thought they disagreed. This was before the Internet. There is no need for name calling and insults. There is a need for civility and rational discussion. The polarization that has occurred in our society is, I believe, much more dangerous than any terrorist group could dream of being.

I guess is the 'bash the mods' thread. It would be much more profitable to use the board's features.

First, if you are personally attacked, if you are called improper names, or if your salvation is truly questioned use the little 'report post' button with precise details as to how you are offended. If you are not satisfied with the moderator's decision use the private message option to contact an administrator.

If that doesn't work you might just add offending posters to your ignore list.

If you are still not satisfied with the result, perhaps you need to prayerfully consider not taking part in discussions or with people who you are are going to offend you.

Either that, or don't pay your subscription fee :)

Only 3 to 4 times in the last few months? I'd say that's not too bad. It happens to me a lot more often when I debate with Calvies. Whenever they resort to name calling it reveals the weightlessness of their arguments and the gravity of their spiritual problem. The high Calvies (like Iconoclast) I actually find enjoyable to discuss things with. But there is a low class of loud-mouthed Calvie around here; just don't pay them any mind. They live for Calvie and it shows.

Poor innocent soul!

You've been called names and while complaining about it you call others pejoratives in the process? C'mon man!

Fitting and typical. You've just done exactly what you've condemned others for, so you also have 'resorted' to the same behavior you complain about.

'and we toil, working with our own hands; when we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;' 1 Corinthians 4:12

'...and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;
and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.'
1 Peter 2:23-24

'bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.' Luke 6:28

.......

C4K has explained the process for handling grievances. If ones salvation is called into question, names are called, we're asked to report this.

Taking a jab as you've done toward others only shows grudge holding and unforgiveness is bound in the heart. It is also interesting how we cannot see that we do the same things we accuse others of doing, as is certainly the case in your post.

I guess is the 'bash the mods' thread.

I do not see this thread as a mods bashing thread, but a thread on the frustration of some in the way they have been treated by others who appear to have immunity to the BB rules. [Very gently said.]

Not at all. I recognize that what you guys do here is probably a pain in the (*)rump at times. My guess is that it's akin to watching a playground at recess.

As I said in the OP, I had a question to be anwered.

I think Crabby best expressed the frustration that I have had. There does seem to be a pass given to certain people that makes one wonder what the standard really is.

* Want to see is this gets deleted.:tongue3::laugh:
