Question, Bible Scholars

    Zechariah 13:8  And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
    9  And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

    Zechariah 14:1a  ¶Behold, the day of the LORD cometh,.....

    In your opinion, do you think this is applicable to the Jews only? I added 14:1 as it referenced the day of the LORD.

    Jim, you should've just gone ahead and answered it and not simply "bumped" it.

    If you read the parallel in Revelation 8 where part of this event of Zechariah's prophecy is fulfilled, it seems to be over "all the earth", not just on the physical region of Palestine.

    Nothing absolute though, since there is no exact NT parallel.

    (And to any preterist who believes this has already been fulfilled, good luck. Have to allegorize this pretty hard!)

    Hi, I would think that this refered to the unsaved Jewish people living in Jerusalem at the time of the coming of our Lord. Jesus rescues Jerusalem from attack, but within Jerusalem, this deliverance is almost un-noticed, as "the things of earth grow strangly dim". They have eyes only for their rejected savior, they "look on him who they have pierced" and mourn for him. That is, conviction of sin and repentance. "On that day, a fountain will be opened ... to cleanse them from sin" followed by baptism.
