It is my understanding that a GI is not considered a Marine until you complete Boot Camp.

    1) is that correct
    2) do the DI's keep reminding you of that fact
    3) What was your thoughts about that during Boot Camp
    4) Was your sense of pride elevated when you were presented the globe and anchor?

As you look back - your thoughts about all this

Per my son, now a lance Corporal in the USMC...
First are called Pullys, then recruits all of the time in Boot camp, and after graduation, then a marine!

Of Course the DI have much more colorful names to call them by while in boot camp!

Salty!... How can anyone claim any branch of service until they are finished with their basic training?... Marines are no different, you could wash out at any time... Oh yeah the DI's reminded us of that fact every day, and especially me... I did my boot in San Diego, where I grew up and I saw Marines all the time, plus my Dad is a former WWII Marine... Never was called a Pully, I was a Boot Recruit (and other colorful names the DI's thought up, I can't repeat here)... I didn't become a Marine until graduation... What were my thoughts after presented with the eagle, globe and anchor... I"M A MARINE!... OORAH!... I made it through 8 weeks of HELL!... Then I went Vietnam and learned what HELL really was (on earth that is)... My Dad was grinning from ear to ear as I was carrying on the family tradition... The youtube video is from 1965 at MCRD, the year I went to Vietnam... Once A Marine!... Always A Marine... Semper Fi!... Brother Glen:)

Don't ask Marines questions. They were never issued the answers and you'll only confuse them. :Biggrin

My son had 13 weeks boot camp, and after serving his obligated 8 years, he just told us wants to join Navy seals, glutton for punishment!
