Question Time (one for the Brits)

Did any of the other Brits watch Question Time on Thursday? The programme was contoversial because of the British National Party leader Nick Griffin appearing on it, but there was one point where a Muslim suggested that Griffin should focus on attacking Christianity as much as attacking Islam and pulled out a quote from Revelation about Jesus ruling with a rod of iron.

I'll have to look up the exact reference to see if he was quoting in context but what did you think? I couldn't help thinking he had his own agenda and was blinkered in his views, almost as much as Griffin.

Do you want to talk about that particular exchange, or Griffin's appearance generally on the show?

A bit of both I suppose. Mainly to discuss the exchange, but I suppose it would help to discuss it in the context of the show.

I found it interesting that a Muslim might have that view of Christianity; I would suspect that view might very well be a legacy from the Crusades combined with a bit of modern 'muscular' Christian fundamentalism which that individual may well have experienced.

As for Griffin, well, he was shown to be not just the odious bigot he is, but also a man without an argument. I failed to see why, for example, his statement on the show that 'people who are already here can stay' squares with his party's stated aim of an 'all-white' Britain. He also squirmed on the whole Holocaust-denial issue. I think Jack Straw in the first five minutes did the most to demolish any case he might have had.

I'm no Brit, but I find it ironic that a Muslim is whining about Christians when Islam is trying to stamp it out. Muslims build their "holy sites" on top of the holy locations of Christianity and Judaism, and then declare them sacred, meaning if it is touched the entire rabid Islam world organization will descend upon the perpetrator. Just take a look at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. I would love to see Israel wipe it clean, but every towel-headed yahoo in the world would rise up in war against them.

It was also typical of Griffin to align himself with Christianity when he clearly isn't a true Christian. I seem to remember Hitler tried to align himself with Christians when it suited him.
