My wife and I recently were led to leave our church because it has left the Biblical paths. In our area are two good churches (actually, there are several, but these two are two we know stand pretty straight on the Bible and Biblical issues). We've been praying about which one the Lord would have us at. At one, the preacher uses "showmanship", false whiny typed preaching...you know what I mean...making it sound like he's crying. Yet, he's got a fairly sound church Biblically, and the people there love him. The church has continued to grow, people are being saved and he is a well known national speaker.

The second church has an equally well known national speaker. The church is very sound, has a longer history than the first, and that history has been distinctively BAPTIST!!! The pastor there is kind, and tries to help those under his leadership.

What I am saying is that BOTH churches, pastors, and histories are sound! The Bible is preached, souls are saved, and God is using both churches.

Can I have some input?? I haven't named the churches, because I don't want this to become a fight about which church is what, or what pastor is what, etc.....If it can stay civil and the names come out, then fine. If the churches/pastors are known by some of you, then please, keep them quiet. If it becomes a "war" here, I will ask immediately that the thread be closed. I'm just looking for some input.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

    AVL,

All other things being equal I could not spend years listening to an overly dramatic preacher. I cant deal with theatrics and false crying. Just give me the Word and be genuine.

Now, the fake crying thing just isn't something I can take. When people cry my first instinct is to run up and pray with 'em or hug 'em or give 'em a piece of chocolate or something, anything, and that's just women. If a man cries in front of me I usually just sob because I can't handle men crying because I rarely see it so I figure when they do it has to be really really really bad.

So if they fake it and I felt all huffy and puffy sobby and then two seconds later you realize they were faking it, I get mad. They basically just lied to me, stressed me out emotionally, and made themselves non-trustworthy. I don't consider that a biblically sound way to act.

I was in one church where the pastor cried all the time. He wasn't even faking it. I just quit going. LOL I know that's dumb, but I just couldn't sit there and watch that, I kept thinking I should go up there and tell him it was ok or something. I even found myself at the altar once just because I felt sorry for him because nobody was up there. Then I felt worse because he thought I was up there because I was convicted and used me as an example, and I was really just praying "Lord, how long do I stay here, and how do I get back up without stepping on the hem of this skirt?" Wonderful wonderful man, heart of gold, and I still pray for him.

Anyhow, go with prayer and the common sense God blessed ya with. ;)

I don't think I'd feel it that deeply but I understand! If my pastor preached with a whiny weepy tone all the time I think it would drive me crazy.

Helen has it right. God doesn't want you to go where you will get the most out of the church. But where you will be able to be used.

Pray for God to give you direction as to where He wants to use you.

And if these churches are too big to need you in any sort of ministry of service, then find another church.

If you go to a church to see what you can get out of it you will always be disapointed. If you go to church to give, you will never be disapointed.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
    which is your reasonable service
    .
12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God
    ." Rom. 12:1-2

    Two thoughts:

First, is that "Where can you best serve Him" is an excellent question.

Second, how does your wife feel?

Maybe God wants you to ignore both of these churches and find a church that needs some sound help in ministry. Maybe God is not giving you peace because you are not where He wants you to serve at. A small church that is out of the way and struggling may be waiting for you and your wife to join so that they may begin a new ministry that God will bless the church with above and beyond anyones imagination.

I say walk away from both of those churches and find a church that is in need of laborers.
