No I was teaching the word of God to a discouraged brother.

Correction. You were teaching Calvin's view of election. You were teaching the "effectual call".

I never mentioned Calvinism once in our conversation but only gave him encouragement and took pressure of him not to think that he is the one that must bring people to salvation.

And this was to a guy that attends your wife's church, correct?

What type of church is it?

IFB Arminian. Free grace and non Lordship.

I mailed a copy of FaithWorks to one of their missionaries and he agreed to read it and me and him will chat about the book over email. I am trying to get the missionary to think seriously about preaching REPENTANCE and Lordship which are topics he likes to dodge as to him they are not necessary.

Therein lies the rub.
and yet in another thread where I said I'd go only to a Primitive Baptist church even if it took driving miles and miles as some of my brethren do, the gist of most of the questions is, "did I not feel others who were not PB's were worshiping the same God" or words to that effect.
This is like an unbeliever being yoked to a believer, and vice-versa.
One will most likely speak of the other about what he believes, and that is going to be unfair to the speaker, because he will be accused of trying to proselytize the entire congregation.
So he can either squirm in his seat, or open his mouth, or leave the church.
Get out of that church, evangelist, and leave your wife there if she doesn't want to come with you.
At least, both of you are worshiping the same Jesus, just that both of you think of grace different.
I've seen professing Christians stay married with practicing Catholics, and everything is cool between them.
Or you'll have to admit to yourself, that, yes, I'd like them to see the "light" of Calvinism.

Well I need to be committed to my wife. If she wanted to be in a Catholic, Word of Faith, or one of these rock N Roll churches I would not join her. But this church other than their Arminian views do have the correct gospel. Granted I wish they would preach doctrine more but there is progressive sanctification and everyone is at different levels in their walk and understanding. I probably read more than anyone in the church including the pastors.

If I might interject, I don't think I can hold with your explanation as BOLDED above.

I've always held to the belief that if any part of the gospel a person or a church is preaching is wrong, then their entire message is wrong. A simple difference on a simple point of doctrine can lead so many souls astray that it would probably astound you.

The knocks you deliver on this church (only a mostly correct gospel, lack of emphasis on doctrine, lack of study by the pastor) cause me to question why you would continue to subject yourself to their meetings.

they do stress the necessity of being born again, and to live for jesus once saved though, correct?
