I am posting this as a moderator (not really a discussion). But we can discuss how to quote people if necessary.

There have been a few issues with quotes.

Some members have quoted others and then changed the quote (these were addressed when reported). Others have made up their own quotes (they have gone through several posts/ threads and tried to build a "quote" of another member to argue against, often changing the actual words).

    Both are dishonest interactions.

The BB has a quote feature which allows members to copy several quotes and insert them into a thread. Another method (one I use often) is selecting "reply" and copying that text.

When a member is quoted the quote is automatically attributed to the author. There is an up arrow to the right of the quoted member's name (after the colon). This is a link to the original text quoted.

When quoting a person it is not necessary to include statements not being addressed. But it is appropriate to use an ellipsis to indicate there are portions omitted.

An ellipsis is a punctuation mark that consists of three dots with a space before, after, and between them ( . . . ). This mark is used to represent a word, phrase, sentence is omitted from a direct quotation.

Some on this board prefer to use "[snip]" to indicate portions have been removed.

We are not grammar police, but members do need to be careful when dealing with the words of other people.

I do use the ellipsis ( . . . ) when necessary when deleting part of a quote which is not part of what I am answering.

I only use "snip" when as an admin - I am deleting a post when I feel what they wrote is inappropriate.
