Racial misgivings of Dems an Obama issue

WASHINGTON (AP) - Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks _ many calling them "lazy," "violent" or responsible for their own troubles.

SNIP

More than a third of all white Democrats and independents _ voters Obama can't win the White House without _ agreed with at least one negative adjective about blacks, according to the survey, and they are significantly less likely to vote for Obama than those who don't have such views.

Lots of Republicans harbor prejudices, too, but the survey found they weren't voting against Obama because of his race.

Imagine how the numbers would be if people discovered he's more Arab than Negro.

This was a nice sentiment but it no longer seems to apply:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

I think the findings would be different if the Republicans were running a black president candidate, such as Colin Powell or Condi Rice.

I would not vote for either of them. Both are liberals. But I would vote for Alan Keyes, a conservative.

Isn't Negro an African American? He is American via his mother and his father if from Kenya which last I knew was in Africa so how do you derive this?

Liberals... Now imagine that... I haven't seen them at any of the meetings.

Isn't he the isolationist? The one who wants to cut ties to everything different?

You like to misrepresent our position as "isolationist", if it's on purpose, or not I can't tell....opposition to NAFTA doesn't make him an isolationist. I would think we could trade with countries instead of sanctioning them to death, with his method....

That wouldn't change the fact that 30% of democrats, supposedly the party of tolerance, are racially prejudiced.

Almost all Republicans are politically prejudiced, meaning a black conservative would meet with almost total acceptance by Republicans

The key word is "conservative".

Color and sex do not matter to conservative Republicans like they do to democrats as a whole.

But wasn't the lady who called Obama an Arab conservative? How about the ones who said they are scared because he is different or because of his middle name? I don't know if you can make this case stick???
