I'm usually not suprised at the ill-informed hatred of all things not extremely left, especially at this blog, but they not only hit bottom here, but continue to dig.....I bet they take it down, but that is Joe Lieberman, in blackface.

    "
E.J. Dionne repeats a piece of conventional wisdom that irks the @#%* out of me every time I hear it - if Lieberman loses the primary and runs as an independent it will distract everyone from the true villain, the GOP, and therefore we should just give him a pass.
Balderdash. Lieberman has been an integral part of the GOP's bully machine for the past six years, the Democrat useful for his willingness to dicipline his own kind. Ned Lamont is running a legitimate primary contest and Joe is refusing to abide by the results of that primary. As Lowell Weicker said the other day, when he became an independent he didn't screw with the Republican primary first (my words not his) he just left. Joe is mucking up the Democratic primary and then abandoning the party to attack it from the outside. How this is the fault of Ned Lamont or his supporters I would very much like to know..."

What you are seeing, is the loony element of the democrat party, attempting to do what the loony element of the republican did successfully; drive off the moderate elements for ideological purity.

Clinton is helping Leiberman precisely because Clinton has always tried to put the brakes on the leftward drift of the democrat party. If someone had done that for the GOP, they wouldn't be commiserating and whining about how hard it will be to keep control of the government with that fool in the White House.

I keep spelling his name wrong.

But he's being thrown under the bus by more people than Jane Hamsher.

And I don't hear much whining. Of course, I may not look for it.

Or even work hard to avoid it. It's all that seems to be on the news, since Bush went to Virginia to help a GOP candidate, and probably caused his defeat.

Nope. The news I listen to is pretty optomistic. It's hard not to be when you have Huffy & Daily Kos calling the DNC's shots.

Am I wrong in thinking that Arianna Huffington was a conservative before Bush became president (ie...during the Clinton years)? If I am correct I view her more as a political opportunist than a serious commentator.

That picture looks like it has been Photoshopped -- especially at the hairline at the top of the forehead.

I think that is the point, that the blog would go to such measures as portray JL in blackface. I don't think anyone was implying that JL really appeared in blackface.

The guy who photoshopped the picture explains:
So the picture was a faked comment on fakery? It seems to have failed in its message.

I dunno if it was actual racism though, because the reference is critical of white people who wore blaceface and doesn't really say anything about black people at all. Like, if you make fun of people who tell Pollack jokes, are you being hateful towards Poles or are you being hateful to people who are being hatedful to Poles?

Apparently, this nation is still too sensitive to poke the issue with a ten-foot pole.

The artist stated, "Yet Lieberman has engaged in race baiting ..." and "Thus...Lieberman is pretending to be something that he is not for personal gain, exactly like the vile caucasian minstrel show performers of Vaudeville."

"If we as a people run from controversial imagery, we will never stop running."

I totally missed anything that could be construed as "race-baiting", on the part of the senator. I think she should give solid examples of "race baiting" istead of that disgusting pic, which has been removed, BTW.

    Okay...

I didn't see the image in the blog, so I suppose it was removed before I visited the site.

While I don't think that images like that should necessarily be censored (although I personally find them in extremely poor taste), I think it is very wrong to manipulate an image of a public figure in order to make it appear that they are doing something so ethnically insensitive and repugnant.

I'm sure there are a number of people who will see that image and actually believe that Lieberman did appear in blackface.
