Rated R movies and kids?

I don't watch R-rated moives and am very careful about PG-13 movies. Certainly would not let my childen watch them while they are still in the home.

 

I think its good to have warning labels on
movies and restrict access for youngsters
into R rated movies at theatres..but a whole
lot has to do with parent or guardian making
sure R rated movies are either not in the house
or locked up.

So no...with me even a lot of PG 13 is off
limits..now the movie "Amilee had 2 blips of
sexual content..but the major theme of the movie was the Christian principle of
secret giving which was really good imho.

with that you have to use case by case discernment.

My nephews were over and they wanted to watch "The Punisher" which was an adaption of a comic book. There mother said it was o.k. Yet I did not at all feel comfortable with that.

It seems to me that violence and other stuff like that is used to make up for large holes in the story. I dont think we should be letting our kids see R rated films for pretty much any reason!

Although if "The Passion" was rated R rather than MA, I would have permitted a teenager to see it, being that they have read the book first!

 

I ned to change my vote, I voted yes, but it should be depends on the movie.

 

I remember as a young lady my dad took us to the movies (this was on rare occasions). He wanted to see "Blazing Saddles" because he thought it was a real western. Boy howdy did he ever sink in the seats! The ride home and back at the house he was complaining about spending good money, and how a western was suppost to be...ect. I can't remember if we even stayed for the whole movie I said all that just to say... alot of people see the trailers and decide to see a movie without checking the rating.

 

There are few R movies that can be argued to be edifying for me as a man.

For "kids"? None at all.

 

perhaps the overiding feelings of the parent
who took the kids into see it was spiritual
rather than governmental...if they have
prepared the kid...then the kid understood
the violence put upon Jesus was personal benefit
for him...it might,would,could, impress upon
the kid the importance of accepting Jesus and
what he did on the cross but then comes the
question why not just wait for the dvd and
sit with your kids and control the dvd..I don't
know. I was aware of some kids in the theatre
as well..I hoped for the best and watched the
movie...a few people got up and left not aware
if kids left or how many.

I have seen the result of violence on kids
in a movie theatre...they start crying and wanting there mom or dad it is not a pretty
site. I think it was Gremlins back in the
80's

 

My kids are adults now, but when they were kids we never allowed them to watch R rated movies, they didn't see these movies until they were old enough to make thier own choices, and were not at home when they did.

 

I rarely watch movies unless I have heard it was good, with or without an R rating.

 

I might let them see Passion of the Christ but other then that I wouldn't let my non existent kids watch R rated movies.

 

After reading over this thread, I thought I would give specific examples of what types of R rated movies I would let my under 18 year old watch.
