According to the history on their web site, Northwestern has a Baptist background, being founded by W. B. Riley of First Baptist Church of Minneapolis. But their statement is that the College is nondenominational:
quote:
Northwestern is the only nondenominational private college in the state of Minnesota. The College is an independent enterprise which takes a biblically Christian ethical and moral position and is theologically conservative in doctrine.

- from History web page

Since they were in our athletic conference and I have relatives who attended there, I can say that Northwestern today reflects about every evangelical group in America. It is the preferred school of the Conservative Baptists in the area.

Some good ifb young people attend, but find themselves a minority among a very new evangelical and worldly crowd. It is a far cry from the bastion of fundamentalism it was under Dr. Moyer and Dr. Riley.

In their attempt to generate revenue, they have many classes open to the community (like a junior college, night school) and there is no requirement to be a Christian for those special programs. But to be a regular student, they have very strict policies.
