Real worship is the heart cry of the redeemed sinner (Rom 8:14-17), when it happens in church, Glory takes place (Eph 3:20-21), and people get saved (Acts 2:42-47). It is NOT three hymns sung at half speed with about a third of the people singing, followed by a "special", and all geared to get out the door by noon, because "preacher if you can't get it done in an hour, you need to move on."

It is Romans 12:1-2...real worship defined! laying down one's life...this is worship in its purest form.

We,also, meet together as believers in the local church for corporate worship...this involves, the offering, the preaching of God's Word, the singing, the prayers,it is all corporate worship.

    Don't forget, only verses 1,2 and 4.

Grasshopper, and it's NOT those new praise songs, sung from words on a bulletin and repeated 5-7 times .... while Susie digs in her purse, Joey talks to his wife, the choir looks over each member to see who is here or wearing what.....

Real Worship comes from the heart and is not some vain repetition put to music.

    Ug........ Been there...... sung that......

I couldn't agree more that real worship is an action of the heart...and that can come through both hymns and praise choruses. If it is a matter of the heart, then the style should be of least importance, although we all have our preferences. What should be important is the message presented in the music.

I find great comfort in the hymns and meaningful worship experiences, but I also find that I can tune my heart toward God in worship singing or listening to praise and worship music.

Right, Charles. In fact, I can better worship through music in my own home than in church! I LOVE the old hymns but also really like/ love many of the new praise songs. Scripture songs are wonderful too.......

Some days are Southern Gospels days and other days are hymns, etc. The Spirit touches my heart in many ways!

Real worship is not about the music at all. Worship in the Old and New Testaments gives the idea of "bowing down or prostrating oneself" before the one being woshiped. In the act of bowing down you pay homage or reverence to that person or even kissing one's hand. When Moses bowed down and worshiped God (Exodus 34:8), it says nothing about him breaking out into a praise chorus or singing a hymn. Same thing when Jesus healed the blind man (John 9:35-38).

Look up the word 'worship' in a Greek or Hebrew dictionary. Music is not even a part of the definition.

So, I guess if we want real worship, then we can stop worrying about what type of music is played.

The classic answer is "the way I worship and you don't". :D

Everyone thinks that their worship is real worship, and they way someone else worships that they don't like isn't.

All the more reason to live and let live when it comes to such things.

Thanks for the answers but I am not sure we have an answer yet to worship. I do believe what we have seen here for the most part is emotional ideas of worship.

Most of the time we look at the church, size, people, music, do they have groups for my age, married or single, things for the teens to do, etc. And much of this we call worship. I wonder what would happen if all that happened was everyone assembled in one room, there was the reading of the word of God and some expounding of it, some testimonies, and a few songs, nothing more nothing less?

To me real worship is being commited to the lord first off...& to the church!!!
And having a love for the lord that you are willing to go out & tell others about jesus!!!

And having a pastor that is on fire for the lord!

From the lips of Jesus we see the answer to the Samaritan woman in Sychar who stated a controversy over the place of worship ("in this mountain" v "in Jerusalem".
So worship is not a place or ritual, but rooted in our spiritual relationship with God (spirit) and in the Word of God (truth).

Anything else may be a part of a service, devotions, et al, but not worship per se.

</font>[/QUOTE]I think the teens aren't just talking about worship. They are talking more specifically about music in the church, right? I don't know the source of your quote so I can't be sure, do you have a link?
