Rebuilding New Orleans

NO! It is not a waste of money.

We have too many refineries, petrochemical plants, etc. to abandon the area.

We have lots of oil going through there from the Gulf of Mexico.

The port there is the largest in the U.S. based on tonnage going through it.

New Orleans must be rebuilt, though it may be smaller.

 

It would be a waste to rebuild the parts under water. Holland lives behind dikes because that have to. Not because they want to.

Let the flooded buildings stand. Great fish habitat.

 

I would think the residential portion could be pretty much sized down to those who work there, run grocery stores, etc.

Then we have to find permanent homes for the hundreds of thousands that won't be going back to New Orleans.

I believe NO will be rebuilt but I wonder if it will be a smaller city. Was not Galveston Texas once bigger than Houston until Isaac's Storm destroyed it? (Help me Texans!) It was rebuilt.

It could be Baton Rouge may be the largest city in La. after this.

 

Yes. Galveston was on its way to being the financial center of that area of the country before the 1900 hurricane.

 

Hopefully they will not build on the region that is below sea level. In fact the Federal Government should refuse to fund any construction there.

 

Now that the Supreme Court has changed the eminent domain laws, authorities can legally confiscate all private properties and turn the whole place into a commercial enterprise investment utopia....no more class system in NOLA. Financed, of course, by the US taxpayer, for draining out the water, rebuilding the levees, etc.

Nothing should be rebuilt in New Orleans that is below sea level. Levee's cannot protect such a place from the tidal surge of a Level 5 or greater hurricane no matter how wide they build them. It is stupid to build a city below sea level.

 

The President has already said it will be built again, only better.

They can drain out the water, fill it in and build an investment dream.

Or they could just buy that destroyed property and leave the people to rebuilt on dry land. Then after they fix what can be fixed, they can sell it to whatever industry wants to risk putting up shop there.

Building cities below sealevel is fine it simply means proper precautions need to be taken.
