robycop3 had often asked, "If you are not KJVO (you believe other translations are the inspired Word of God), what other English version(s) do you recommend?"

I would ask it of everyone no matter how you see yourself - What other English translations would you recommend beside the AV1611?

If you say ONLY THE AV1611 (or one of its revisions), then you are a defacto KJVonly. Duh. Not hard to deduce from that. We have lots who say they are NOT, that other versions are also the Word of God.

    The old "money-where-your-mouth-is" fits here.

I love the AV1611 but would also recommend the KJV1769oxford, NKJV, ASV1901, NASB and CJB (Complete Jewish Bible). And a host of others, but these are my first choices.

I prove to any/all that I am not an "only". Like anyone here questioned that!!

I like the ESV,NASB,& NET Bibles in that order if we are leaving the KJV out. I am KJV preferred 1-3 but I'm no fanatic.I don't care at all for paraphrases.

KJV (I don't bicker over which edition) and the NKJV.

That's all I can recommend. Although I am not going to condemn or be crtical of those who choose otherwise.

    In the 20th century (1901 through 2000), I got a lot of
miles out of the KJV1769, NIV, nKJV. But this is the
    21st century (2001 through 2100) - I'm using the HCSB2003
until a new version of the Holman Christian
    Standard Bible comes out.

The NKJV used along with the NASB to get the "sense" of the original language Scriptures.

For ease of prolonged narative type reading. the NIV is useful to bring the original languages into a dynamic vernacular.

For mss variant choices I would recommend the KJV/NKJV.

    (1) NASB95
    (2) ESV
    (3) HCSB, which would probably be my first recommendation to a new believer due to it being slightly easier to read than the above two.

    (1) NIV - simply because it is the one I read.
    (2) NASB 95 - I like to use this one for backup
and appreciate its more literal translation.
    (3) ESV - OK, but find the NASB easier to read.

    KJV preferred
    NKJV
    NASB
    NIV
    ESV
    ASV1901

Not necessarily in that order. I would feel comfortable using any of them. I haven't become comfortable with the New SBC's Bible of choice, the HCSB, but that's probably because I've not read a whole lot of it.

NKJV and NASB-95: I use these two most of the time, but I also read the NLT for easy reading. I use the NIV on Biblegateway. I recommend what I use. Bruce

Like Bob the AV11611 (real 1611)
    KJV1769 Oxford
    ESV
    NASB
Holman -- A few problems, first run, probably be fixed in later versions. Nothing major.
NIV - okay, not my first choice, but good for easier reading for either new Christians or young folks

Dr. Bob, I notice you like the ASV. What are the major differences between it and the NASB? Was the NASB a true upgrade, or something else?

NASB (both the older editions and the 1995 update)
    ASV
    NKJV
    KJV (1769 or similar revision)
    RSV, with 1971 N.T.
    NRSV
    ESV
    NIV
    NAB, with 1986 N.T.

    In the above order

Craig, I noticed you placed the ESV below the RSV, I assume you were aware it was really an updated RSV. Would you positioning still hold the same if you did not know this?

This is just a minor thing, but I was just curious.
