Featured Redskin's Trademark Cancelled

Wow, this really opens a can of worms.

 

The Indianapolis Indians minor league baseball team will be next, not to mention the Cleveland Indians.

 

I am sure that tribes across America now feel a surge of good self-esteem.

 

How many colleges will have to change the name their sports teams are called. For instance will the Florida Seminoles have to change their name?

 

The trademark isn't "cancelled" -- yet.

The Redskins' ownership is appealing the decision, and it is stayed until such time as the legal process is exhausted. It could be years before they actually have to surrender exclusive use of the name/trademark.

Also in danger ...



... even though the name comes from long-ago Kansas City mayor H. Roe Bartel's nickname, who negotiated the relocation of the then-Texans from Dallas.

 

Atlanta Braves, etc.

Silly decision IMNSHO.

 

Apparently we live in a culture of overy sensative whiney babies who are running around looking for a reason to be offended so they can have someone feel sorry for them.

 

Do you wonder if this means that the government can make any trademark, etc., null and void?

 

The whine of the Boomers, Xers, Yers, and Millennials: "It's not my fault that ... "

I was raised by the Greatest Generation. My dad woulda kicked my butt.

 

One point, the difference between the Redskins and these other teams is that the other teams don't use a possibly derogatory moniker that has historically been used to discriminate.

That said, let's see how this plays out legally. I am deeply concerned about free speech issues and the long term effect on our society.

 

Wonder how long it's gonna take for someone to say that the Obama Administration ordered this?

Will it be Rush or Sean? My bet is on Rush and then all of the " Rush political sycophants" will fall in line and start saying the same thing. :laugh:

 

Mine did not do that, I have been slighted, who can I sue, he died so can't sue him, how about the county that did not protect my rights!

Actually my dad couldn't, he was paralyzed from the waist down but he laid one of his canes across my backside more than once - kick might have been better. :tongue3:

 

"Derogatory monikers" are subjective and are usually defined as such by the victims.

 

I will admit that I read a thought provoking article questioning how it would go over if we had the San Francisco Chinamen, or the New Orleans Blackies, or the Brooklyn Jews.

Not sure how to respond to that.

 

They should have a team called the Whiteskins. No one would complain about that. It seems as if the patent office can cancel any protection at any time for any reason.

The Washington Redskins should move out of DC to a friendlier place.
