Remembering Tisha b'Av this Year

Tisha B'Av = July 29th/30th 2020 (Wednesday/Thursday) is remembered each year as "the Day of Disaster" תִּשְׁעָה בְּאָב

On Tisha B'Av 1444 BC, the twelve spies return and give report of Canaan and 38.5 years of wilderness punishment begins; 2,000,000 Jews die

On Tisha B'Av 586 BC, armies of Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar) destroy First Temple; 50,000 Jews killed or taken captive

On Tisha B'Av 70 CE, legion of Rome (Titus) destroys Second Temple; 100,000 Jews killed

On Tisha B'Av 135 CE, legions of Rome destroy Jerusalem totally to quell the Bar Kokhba revolt; 580,000 Jews killed or taken captive

On Tisha B'Av 1096 CE, the Pope issues the First Crusade; 10,000 Jews in France/Germany killed in first month

On Tisha B'Av 1941 CE, Himmler officially authorizes Hitler's "Final Solution" to the Jewish problem (Holocaust); 6,000,000 Jews killed

These are all on different dates in our calendar (somewhere mid-July to mid-August in which the month of Av (Ab) occurs on the Hebrew calendar. One can see why it is a sober time of fasting, prayer and introspection for Jews today.

Could these all happen on the same date? We talked in Bible study Sunday and gave example of disasters all on same day in US history (April 19) over just a short period of time:

On April 19, 1775, the American colonies were plunged into war with Britain at Lexington/Concord

On April 19, 1906, the great San Francisco Earthquake destroyed the largest city on the West Coast

On April 19, 1993, the federal massacre of Branch Davidian Church at Waco

On April 19, 1994, Rodney King's merciless beating and LA riots begin

On April 19, 1995, the Oklahoma City bombing of the federal building by domestic terrorists

Old but not dead yet. The local clergy encouraged knights to "wet their sword with the blood of those who killed Jesus" (Jews). Teutonic Knights and Frankish nights were the main culprits and had killed 10,000 before reaching the holy land.
