Rep. Murtha Dead at 77

Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. John Murtha, the first veteran of the Vietnam war to enter Congress and one of the House's most powerful lawmakers, died Monday afternoon at Virginia Hospital Center after complications from gallbladder surgery. Murtha was 77.

"Congressman John P. Murtha (PA-12) passed away peacefully this afternoon at 1:18 p.m. at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va. At his bedside was his family," read a statement from his office.

Certainly I have sympathy for his family but more so I feel sorry for the messed up legacy he leaves behind.

From a personal standpoint, I'm sorry for his family at their time of loss. We just lost a dear man at church at 76 years old and it was very difficult because he was such a dear man and the father of my husband's best friend.

Sorry to hear that. It shows how dangerous any surgery can be. We just had a lady in our community die from complications of gastric bypass surgery. No surgery is routine.

I should not be surprised on this board, but occasionally I still am. Let me opt out of such compassion as shown by the hate filled earlier posts. I am never happy when a person dies, regardless of how ofter or how much I disagreed with them. It is always a sad event. To delight in the death of a person and believe and enjoy thinking he is now in a 'hot place' is a dreadful sin!

The woman taken in adultery was very fortunate some who post here were not in the crowd that day.

Yes, I agree. He served in war and in Congress. He was always a strong supporter of the military but dared to express his opinion on the stupidity of the Iraq war. He was also the "king of pork", but that is what all politicians want to be to their districts or state.

May he rest in peace.

Why are we supposed to feel bad about one particular person and his family just because he was on TV, was a movie star, politician, sports figure or what ever?

If we are supposed to feel bad that someone that we didn't know died and are supposed to pray for their families - shouldn't we be feeling bad and in prayer every minute of every day?

Besides that - until the world ends we don't go to Heaven unless we die so shouldn't it be a time of joy for believers?

I won't pretend to have liked the man, or even say he was a good man. That is not dancing on his grave.

That being said, this comes at a bad time for democrats. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks of what happened in the Massachusetts special election.

Who rejoiced over his death? And, who had "hate" filled posts? Progressives love to toss around the "hate" word just about as much as they like to use "racist" and "homophobe." I disagree with MP. I do not think that he gave any reasonable service our country. He worked to destroy our country and the credibility of our miliatary by declaring service men guilty before they been given a fair chance to defend themselves. It's a poor legacy to carry to the grave. That's the truth whether the high and mighty Crabby wants to admit it or not.

This is a terrible position for me to be in....

But I have to agree with CTB is saying

I thought The represetatives positions were stupid these last few years. But in the same way any WW II vet is sorry when a vet dies, I am sorry that another Viet Nam vet has died.

I'll not miss his politics, but I will pray for his family.

I too am praying for the family, especially sinse the surgery included doctor error. This is a shame, and it seems inexcusable from what I've read so far.

Sure Murtha was a thorn in the side of Bush, but, he is still a human being, a creation of God, and when someone passes, there are needs for the family to be included in prayer, especially the need for this death to remind the loved ones, and those left behind, that they need Jesus for their day of passing.

I don't know if Murtha was born-again. Only God knows, but, let's pray for the hearts of those who attend his memorial, hoping that the Holy Spirit convicts hearts of their need to accept Jesus as their personal Savior.
