Report: Baptist attends PCA Church

Hey BB,

I mentioned in another thread that our church, Berean Baptist, would be having a joint service with Grace Presbyterian in our area. My experience there can be summed up in this:

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" Psalm 133:1

The preaching was on the Lord's Table and we sang Pslams and Hymns together. Then we took the Lord's Table together and had a fellowship time afterwards. I left full of the Holy Spirit and joy!

We are unified in all the essentials of the Christian faith.

Except for the fact that the PCA sprinkles babies and Baptists baptize professing believers by full immersion. Other than that little detail I'd say that PCA and Baptist doctrine generally lines up.

And Church government. But I find neither Baptism nor Church governement essential to salvation.

And, they are certainly calvin oriented so they don't line up with all Baptists. But, that's not an essential belief for salvation either. So, I too could fellowship and worship with my PCA brothers and sisters. We'd just have to agree to disagree on a few matters.

Amen. True Christian unity is there because they too are His body. And thankfully for us, our confession of faith is nearly identical to theirs. :laugh:

It should.The 1689 was based upon the Westminster Confession of Faith.But the 1689 ( London Confession) is a little closer to the Savoy Declaration.

It seems like you have unity confused with uniformity.

Good point TCG. We don't have to be cookie-cutter images of one another.

I really think a lot of conservative Baptist congregations should occasionally have joint conferences.We could learn from one another.

Yep. It's the cookie-cutter-images-mentality that has us visibly divided.

I once read a quote by Martin Luther where he was explaining why he would always consider himself a Catholic and I don't remember the quote exactly but he said something to the effect of "If we start a new division of Christianity because of doctrinal or theological issues others will follow the same pattern and there will nothing but division in the Lords Church" that is why he was a Reformer and contrary to popular belief he did not attempt to start a "new denomination" Anyway I just am amazed at how right he was and how sad it is
