Republican leaders skip on 50-Year Selma Commemoration

Scores of U.S. lawmakers are converging on tiny Selma, Alabama, for a large commemoration of a civil rights anniversary. But their ranks don’t include a single member of House Republican leadership — a point that isn’t lost on congressional black leaders.

Two possible reasons are that they are either genuinely uninterested in the anniversary, despite the opportunity to publicly show their leadership and upright “Christian” moral values, or they feel that attending would not sit well to the Republican "base" that has been in no mood to hear about racism, or voting rights, or civil rights, or why legislative victories won by the marchers and organizers of 50 years ago ought to be still protected today.

This should have been an easy one. That it wasn't speaks volumes.

Fox is reporting that 100 members of Congress were there today. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box but the last I knew there were 535 members of Congress. That means there were 435 members of Congress who didn't go to Selma. Can we apply your thesis to ALL 435 missing members or just to the three Republicans?

According to Drudge, illegal immigrants are headed to Selma, looking for legal status and jobs. They might be the next big thing since they are here because they have indicated that they will vote Democrat.

So what is the point. If they had gone people like you would have called them hypocrites. The black congressional caucus would not give a Republican air if he was in a jug.

If it had not been for the Republicans in Congress there would have been no Civil Rights Bills passed. But do the blacks care? They are perfectly to be included in the plantation crowd by the democrats who only care about the black vote, or the hispanic vote, or whatever minority vote they can buy.

Most black leaders of the Al Sharpton and OBummer type have nothing but contempt for people like Justice Thomas or Dr. Carson, or Thomas Sowell. I bet these people never heard of Booker T. Washington or George Washington Carver! Have you?

For starters try reading "The Souls of Black Folk" or "Dark Water" by W.E.B. DuBois.

Christ as the Suffering Servant is a major point in Black Theology and how Christ came to free people. Black theology deals with Christ and the liberation of the marginalized people and dealing with the injustices commmitted against minority peoples of the world.

A very good book was published in 2014 entitled Bonhoeffer's Black Jesus by Reggie Williams.

This books deals with the years that Bonhoeffer lived in New York City and attended the Abyssinian Baptist Church. It was this experienced that led him to return to Germany and oppose Hitler and the Nazis. His book, "The Cost of Discipleship" reflects these beliefs.

Those two men came out of slavery and discarded the plantation mentality which the democrat party is so successful at instilling in many blacks, or African-Americans, today and are working to instill it in the Hispanic population. Anything for a vote.

It is sad that when progress was being made in this country to eliminate discrimination against blacks many educated black people, of the Al Sharpton type, did everything in their power to instill that plantation mentality in blacks and even more sad it works.

Anyways, lots of folks got degrees. One of the things I like most about Scott Walker is he DOESN'T have one. I know more than a few libertarians who won't pay for their kids to go to college. If yo want to party, go to college. If you want to get educated, go to the library.
