The Republicans have come up with an interesting plan for the 2012 primaries.

If 5 large states or commonwealths - ie TX, NY, Ca, Fl, Pa - have early primaries, it is very possible that a candidate will pretty well wrap up the nomination. Thus small States or Commonwealth will in effect have no say so in the process of their Presidential candidate.

Personally, I like the "Ohio Plan".

Need to eliminate crossover voting before any plan will be very productive.

'Course this is a legal function of the state, but it's a fly on top of the ice cream if not addressed.

I'm convinced that cross-party voting is what got the last R candidate on the ballot - certainly not mass appeal from the R constituency!:sleep:

I agree!
Actually open primaries should be up to the State parties not the State government. Then why would Dem's want Reps voting in their primaries and vice-versa.
Are open primaries permitted because independent and 3rd party members yell that they want to vote in the primary - (remember - a primary is NOT an election).
