I have a college girl in my church that is doing a paper comparing the life and choices of King Saul and King David. She is in need of a good book on the life of King Saul. I do not have one, and was wanting some recommendations to pass along to her.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

I am not aware of any books about the life of King Saul. One place to check may be commentaries on 1 Samuel. Another source might be books about the life of David since their lives were connected for a period of time.

Charles Swindoll's book A MAN OF PASSION & DESTINY DAVID includes some comments about King Saul.

Alexander Whyte's BIBLE CHARACTERS FROM THE OLD TESTAMENT AND THE NEW TESTAMENT has a few pages on Saul (pp. 228-234).

Leon Wood's A SURVEY OF ISRAEL'S HISTORY has a chapter about King Saul. Chapter ten. pp. 237-259.

A History of Israel by Davis and Whitcomb is a great resource. It is published by Baker. I've had mine a while so I don't know how readily available it is.

Another is I, II Kings by House in the New American Commentary series.

Both of these are very readable books.
