Responsibility for one's actions

In a word, "no." I would be a dinosaur in Washington DC. I would be honest and actually respect the wishes of my constituents instead of the lobbyists and cronies. I would be genuinly concerned about seeking to do what is right, honest, just, and fair, instead of seeing how much wealth I could build up or under-the-table deals I could line up for when I left office. Undoubtedly, though, I probably wouldn't last long in sin city and upon leaving, would need to take a long hot shower to wash off all the filth and stench from my short tenure on Capitol Hill.

 

That's the key. A lot more people go to Washington with good intentions than bad ones. The system corrupts them. Those who don't get corrupted, get disgusted and quit, as Lady Eagle almost certainly would.

That's the problem. The solution is term limits. My own Senator Hutchison, now says that her promise to serve only two terms is no longer operative.

Whatta surprise.

 

I believe that the general trend in not accepting responsibility for ones actions is on the increase. I think it's based on the assumption that man is basically good, so his missteps need to be overlooked or at least not judged too harshly if he's repentant.

This, is unfairly applied at the Congressional level though.
Compare:
what Clinton did (Monica) , which was a huge national security issue, and Ted Kennedy and the Chappaquidick issue, and ongoing treason, Barney Franks, openly a sodomite and ran a male prostitute ring from his house, Hillary's miraculous commodities trade, etc....These are still serving and remain unrepentant. OK Clinton's out of office.

With:
Bob Packwood, Farley, Dan Quail a great man, Richard Nixon, Chuck Colson, Newt Gingrich, Tom Delay, .......

The difference is that Republicans are prosecuted by both parties and Democrats are prosecuted by neither party.

 

Quayle's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, but so far as I know, he's never done anything to be included with that pack of reprobates.

And you ask if folks are getting less 'responsible' for their actions? Duh.
