It is my understanding that the offices of senator & representative were originally intended to be part-time endeavors for average citizens, not careers!!

Therein, IMHO, lie the majority of the problems with gov't today - career politicians.

I feel that the FF would be incensed at the idea of careers AND retirement given to PART-TIME jobs.

Therefore I say emphatically NO to any retirement benefits, and would limit pay to no more than a token amount + actual expenses (documented)! Oh, also limit the time congress is in session to be exceeded only by national emergencies.

I'm ready to get back to pre- EPA, DHEC, NEA, DOE, OSHA, etc, etc, etc days.

Either the military plan or a defined contribution plan (like a 401(k)/403(b)) would work for me.

I hold that they should be paying Social Security just like us all with the exact same guidelines and receive the same benefit schedule as we all do.

They do pay into Socal Secuity per truthorfiction.com
.

I probably was not very clear on that. Congress can now get two benefits. Social security, CSRS or FERS depending on how long they have been there. I was proposing they only get Social Security like the rest of us and if they want another plan they get one outside the government not through the government.
Currently depending on which plan they get they draw an average of 63500.00 form one plan or $36,732 from the other. Both are higher then our regular Social security which has a max payment of about 28,000 if the person has always made Max pay. I want them on the same level as the rest of us and them not getting any special above payment treatment.
