    Here's your chance folks.

Pretend you have time traveled to the Constitutional Convention. In your wisdom and knowing what you know now, how would you have worded the Constitution to deprive Muslim American citizens of the civil and religious liberties?

Here are things that some folks seem to want here:

Forbid Muslims form being elected to office
Forbid Muslims from being appointed to office
Outlaw Islam until Christianity is legalised in Muslim lands
Require a religious test for immigration
Require a litmus test for Muslims running for office or seeking appointment
Don't allow Muslims to pray in public

Only the Constitution stands in the way of these prohibitions. If you could go back in time and "fix" the Constitution how would you do it?

    Hiya Roger,

Don't let these people get you down. They are entitled to their opinion, but so far it sure does show you what kind of person they really are.

Keep up the good work in your minstery.

    Thanks Jamie.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thats part of what is great about America. And everyone is free to express it. I would die for these rights even when I disagree.

What scares me is the current trend of calling for the infringement of American's rights.

I agree with you there! People are so quickly ready to give up others freedoms bacause they are afraid. Why do they fear so much? Don't they trust in the Lord?

The Bible did say things would get worse before it got better, maybe this is another step of many in that direction. :tear:

    Take care Roger!

And you should be scared. It's infringement upon my American rights to not be able to carry a bottle of water on board an airplane because some religious nuts flew planes into buildings. It is against the American rights of blind (Americans with Disabilities Act) people to not be able to have a taxi ride with their seeing eye dog because a muslim cab driver's religion says dog saliva is dirty and his religion doesn't permit him to be around dogs. It is against American civil rights to be xrayed in airports because some religious freaks flew planes into buildings killing thousands of Americans. It is against the rights of employers to be made to accommodate prayer times and prayer rooms so certain minorities can walk off the job and have prayer times. (Dell Computer case) It is against American freedom of speech (1st Amendment Rights) to call for a radio talk show host to be fired from his job because he expressed his opinion about a "certain" religion.

Would we permit the KKK to infringe upon American civil rights to accomodate their ideology? Would we permit the Nazis to change our way of life to accomodate their ideology? As an American, it is my right to be concerned when my basic way of life and freedoms are being threatened out of fear of a certain religious political ideology that seeks to destroy my freedoms and take away all that my forefathers and others have bled and died for.

Trampling the Constitution for certain minorities didn't seem to be an issue during WW2 and in case some of you haven't heard, islam has declared war on civilization.

Curtailing another's freedom of religion sounds like a great idea...

    ...

...as long as you're in the majority.

Then, (surprise!) when you're not, the laws you've created are turned against you.

No thanks. I'll keep the First Amendment as it is written.

Wasn't it FDR who said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself?"

Fear seems to reign supreme here. Fear is motivating solid American patriots who love their country to call for the abrogation of American freedoms.

Lady Eagle mentions several freedoms already taken away by fear, yet many here are advocating the end of more American freedoms.

A Muslin American citizen is rightfully and legally elected by 56% of the people of his constituency.* Suddenly FDR's statement comes true and fear reigns supreme!

Fear mustn't be allowed to reign. If we start changing the law to deprive Americans of any religious faith their rights, then fear has won.

*Of course, this was the state who elected Jesse Ventura as their governor ;).

Let us not forget that early in our country's history (pre-revolution), many colonies greatly curtailed religious freedoms. The Puritans (though good and God-fearing folk) made it rough for many non-conformists...many of those were Christians. By it's founding, the US had come to a more mature understanding of religious freedom.

In this day and age, should we choose to take it back to the puritan area in terms of the scope of religious freedom, (not that we could accomplish it, but hypothetically speaking), it wouldn't be long before the tables were turned upon us, using those same laws.

Here is an example of the kind of possible re-wording I am talking about.

You would all be happier if our Founding Fathers had been wise enough to use this wording?

    Roger,

As I see the situation, everyone fits within a culture. There is always a dominant culture. Someone enjoys the privilege of being in the dominant culture and someone else submits to the dominant culture.

If everything is relatively homogeneous, this is not a painful process. But, when there are very different cultures, some one has to give up something.

My understanding of US law is that there is to be no discrimination in the work place (housing and a few other areas as well) based upon religion. I believe that is Constitutional.

However, muslims demanding that I submit to being comfortable with muslims terrorizing me and my neighbors all in the name of "religious tolerance' is not IMHO Constitutional.

IT IS NOT CONSTITUTIONAL to terrorize. So if that is what you and Jamie are calling for, I cannot support you and Jamie. And in my interpretation, the Bible does not support that either.

And I would not be willing to die so that anyone could force Americans to submit to islam. PERIOD.

Who is calling for the right to terrorise? As long as a Muslim, or any American, abides by the law his right should NEVER be infringed.

How can that be interpreted as a right to terrorise?

Actually, you can carry a bottle of water on board an airplane. This "right" (is it really a right????) has not been infringed.

    Roger,

I pray that you are just having a bad day.

Yes, the Founding Fathers would have had a dim view of the Mohammedans. No, they would not have wanted to single out the Mohammedans. But, allowing Mohammedans to come into my country and terrorize my fellow Americans is NOT WHAT they intended.

I am tired of this, "We give up rights" if we slow down the tide of islamic immigration. The only reasons that they want to come here are to get rich, convert us to islam, and flee the war torn countries that they are destroying.

Any group of people that allows the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of people should be barred from immigration until they can settle their own problems. I am not asking that they worship Jesus to come into my country. But, I am asking them to stop killing Christians - FIRST!

I do not want muslims to start another helter skelter and this time succeed. Not in my country.

I would be happier if Americans and foreigners could learn to get along instead of terrorizing people because they choose to worship the Creator.

Very good post and well said, better than mine. I have no tolereance for any group that kills 3000 Americans for no reason other than pure evil.

We are not discussing immigration - we are discussing the rights of American citizens.

We can't deprive those rights because of fear.

Sorry folks - I have enjoyed the lively civilised debate, but I have however spent a little too much time the last couple of days. I do have a ministry here and a message to preach tomorrow.

Gonna have to "cut and run."

The Lord bless each of you.

I reckon that ya'll might not be getting American news.

Imams in and around the St Paul area have been encouraging muslims to stand up for their rights.

The had a group of muslim imams go against muslim practice and stand up together in a plane and loudly proclaim "Allah Akbar". The passengers felt threatened and the muslims were removed. The muslims claimed that this was a normal part of islam. Some Americans countered, "That was also what the terrorists loudly proclaimed when they took control of the September 11th planes" and as such it would not normally be expected for muslims to pray in public in that manner.

A group of taxi cab drivers at the airport are now refusing to carry passengers for 'religious reasons' and muslim leaders are asking Americans to accommodate their religion and allow them to discriminate against customers on religious grounds.

And I think that I read that Muslim leaders are now asking for a separate prayer room at the airport so that they do not have to pray with Christians. This could explain why they prayed out loud in public . . . a call for a prayer room (that is my personal commentary).

A muslim group bought 10+ acres outside of Houston (Katy) and then suggested that the pig farmer that was beside them should move from his family's historic pig farm.

So, at present, there are muslims that are asking Americans accommodate their religion and discriminate against those that are not muslim.
