Rewriting the Bible

Huh? I don't have a clue what you are talking about. Is it the generation gap?

What does "sike" mean?

Did Malcom X really copy the Bible out by hand? And if he did, how does that make him relevant to Christians?

Your topic is "Rewriting the Bible." A "rewrite" in editorial terms (as in the editorial dept. of a newspaper or publishing co.) usually means to correct and polish stuff in the original and make it a better product to sell more copies. Is this what you mean?

 

Hey, have at it. Anything that makes you memorize or learn the Word of God better and faster, I'm all for it. :thumbsup: :thumbs:

 

Bible memorization has a long history. Many, many people have experimented with many methods. I would advise you not to reinvent the wheel. Instead, find old books on the subject and talk to old Christians who have performed admirably in this area. What works and what doesn't should become clear after a little research. You don't want to waste time with a bad method.

I tend to think that Bible memorization has declined precipitously with the ascendence of modern translations. (But how could I prove it?) That's why I say to go to the old sources.

 

rewrite?

Listen, I don't know about you but you can not rewrite the Words of God. It has been the Word, yesterday, today and will be the Word tommorrow. You can not add or take away from the Word. I should think one would be ashamed of himself if he were to put something that was not in the original Word of God. I would hate to suffer the Word through my ignorance of the Word by rewriting what I believe the Word should be like, just because I memorized the Word:type: . Sounds to me like people who want to rewrite the Word to suite thier needs in life. I like the way God has given the Word to His to write. The original Words are directly from God. I live for the Word, I love by the Word and the Word is given to me from God not from man. Just because you memorize the Word don't mean you live in the Word. So memorize all you want, don't mess with the Word. Live for the Word and remember God is the Word. He is the one who created the Word and God was the Word.

 

I started, 62 years ago, to find the key verse of each chapter of the bible and memorize it....one verse in each chapter. In the process, I actually memorized long sections finding that one verse.

In public school, (about grade 9 in your school) we had to memorize the gospel of John, and write a test on it. It is not easy, but requires effort every day...a paragraph at a time.
