Anyone catch Mitt's speech at the GHWB Library today? If so, what do you think.
I was watching it, and less than a minute into it my dish went out...:BangHead:
I'll see if i can find it online.

If Romeny hasn't got any more sense than to believe that satan is the brother of Jesus and that we all can be god's that manage our own planet someday then he doesn't need to be President. I am surprised he doesnt believe the President caused 911 to start a war.

Or believe the President is a conservative.

But on thre other hand Romney was raised Morman and it is understandable that he would be the same faith as his father. It's not like his father gave him a catalogue of denominations and gave him a choice of which he would rather be. Satan being a brother to Jesus is far fetched to me as well but this way of believing for Romney was ingrained in him since childhood.

I watched the highlights of his speech tonight on the news, and I was somewhat impressed by him.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement . . .

I'm reserving judgement. No one has risen to the top of the heap for me yet.

I did not see Romney's speech but I read a transcript of it today. It was an excellent speech. A president is sworn to uphold the constitution and Romney can do so without reservation or purpose of evasion. I feel that Romney is completely qualified to be president and I believe that, if he were elected, he would serve honorably. I am not sure who I will vote for, but, in evaluating Romney, his religion is not an obstacle for me.

Well I said "somewhat" because I did not see the whole thing. However, what I did see I was impressed and I agree with swaim's comments completely.

I haven't watched it yet, but my dad did, and said that it seemed like he was desperate... trying to pull all he has out to get the vote in Iowa...

Of course I and my dad are Huckabee fans...
So that might explain it...

FWIW.. I was supporting Romney up until a couple months ago...
Until I started reading about Huckabee... here on BB.

And the more I find out, the more I like him.

This is the impression I got, too. Morally, he seems to have his head on straight. If the choice is between he and McCain or Guliani, it's Romney for me.

Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom.

Romney also gave another speech yesterday that included the above quote. You can read that speech here.

There are 2 things wrong with this statement. #1, freedom doesn't require religion. #2, religion doesn't require freedom.

In fact, his statement, if carried out to its logical end, violates the first amendment to the Constitution.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

All by itself, Romney's statement should exclude him from serious consideration as President.

BTW, if freedom requires religion, then those who don't have a religion have now been labeled as enemies of freedom. Also, which religion is required for freedom? I assume it's his, which means that my religion is the "wrong religion". This is what Romney wants to do to those he regards as enemies of freedom.

I admit his speech is really good if he really meant what he delivered. But considering this is in reaction to Huckabee's surge means he is really desperate to get the support of all the religious groups who are already rallying around Huckabee. If he did it earlier before maybe he was able to maintain his lead.

But of course, there are still like me who won't buy his being recent convert to prolife movement. He has a message for every group he wants to get support.

Romney's religion is the least of the problem. He is not honest. He says whatever group will gain him political power at the moment.

Romney or Giuliani being nominated spell doom for the Republicans.

I don't plan on voting for him, but I thought his speech was pretty good. I was impressed by his straightforward approach.

The fact that he's great looking and has an excellent voice are his biggest assetts. I've also been to salt Lake City several times, and it is quite a place. For a city of like 3 million, it has no graffitti, no porn shops, I didn't exactly go looking for them, but they ween't in my face either. In other cities, porn is in the front windows.

I'm not voting for him, but I don't think he deserves a lot of the criticism directed at him.

Since I do not vote for Democrats, I could care less how Romney is different than them.

However, I do care about the Republicans nominating a person who is conservative, has good leadership abilities, and at least acts like he cares for the American people.

Either Romney was lying when he was governor of Massachussetts, or he is lying now about abortion, gay rights, and gun control. Frankly, I dont care when he was lying. The fact is, he is not honest.

A lot of these "political analysts" seem to be blaming Huckabee for making Romney give a speech on religion because they claim that Huckabee is playing the faith card in Iowa.

Wonder if people are turning to Huckabee because of his faith, which has always been well known, or is because he is coming out so strongly for the FAIR TAX????
