The Movie: Ronnie Earle, on a Mission from God
The Texas DA is inspired by the Bible to prosecute Tom DeLay.

A new film featuring Travis County, Texas prosecutor Ronnie Earle as he pursued the investigation that led to the indictment of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay portrays Earle less as a partisan figure than as a messianic leader on a mission to rid American politics of the "evil" influence of money.

A copy of the still-unfinished film, entitled The Big Buy, was obtained by National Review Online Friday.

On several occasions in the film, Earle engages in monologues on what he believes is the sinister effect of money in politics. "The root of the evil of the corporate and large-monied interest domination of politics is money," Earle says as he takes the filmmakers on a nighttime drive around Austin. "This is in the Bible. This isn't rocket science. The root of all evil truly is money, especially in politics. People talk about how money is the mother's milk of politics. Well, it's the devil's brew. And what we've got to do, we've got to turn off the tap."

I wouldn't pay money to see that film and I wouldn't watch it for free. It will have to be shown on PBS.

I think that DeLay is through, however. Comeback is difficult even if the charges are false.

Well, for one, he doesn't get the Bible. The Bible doesn't say the that the root of all evil is money. It says the root of all evil is the love of money.

No disrespect but "bingo" is what the Catholics say in their churches. [IMG]

You can't say "holy cow" anymore either because that offends the Hindus. [IMG]

I guess "holy toledo" will do it for the Canadians, right? ;)

What is it Perry White used to say on the early Superman series..."Jumpin'Jehosaphat"? Who will that one offend?

Perry White as fond of saying "Great Caesar's Ghost".

And I'm offended my middle name will be Jehosaphat when I get around to changing it.

I was aware until now that Earle was on a religiopus crusade...based on a faulty interpretation of the Bible.

    It confuses the issue. ;)

    That's the plan. </font>
Who do think was more fanatical, Earle or Ken Starr? </font>
Ken Starr was commissioned to look into specific allegations about Clinton. His investigation resulted in several indictments and convictions. It resulted in proof that the sitting President of the US committed perjury...

...and no, it really doesn't matter what it was about. The oath is foundational to justice in our nation whether one is witnessing about their biscuit recipe or murder. If we can't count on people to tell the truth in the witness stand and be punished severely when they don't then we can't count on justice at all.

There is no evidence that Starr was on a crusade to bring down Clinton prior to being appointed special prosecutor. Afterwards, he did what he was supposed to do... vigorously seek evidence of wrong-doing.

If DeLay is guilty then he is no less guilty even if this guy is some kind of zealot. However if these charges are proven frivolous... the guy should go down.

I've lived in Houston since Delay first got into politics. He is as crooked as a snake, everybody here knows it, it's common knowledge. It's about time he's finally brought to trial. I knew that he would finally be caught.

My friend in Houston says that he Delay, is very conscious of right and wrong and strives not only to avoid wrongdoing but to avoid the appearance of it.

How many times has DeLay been admonished for his ethics issues?

Many times, but are accusations to be taken as convictions? It is a well known tactic for Democrats to throw accusations around, which IS taken as a partial conviction in the press and by the people. Tom Delay will have a tough time rebuilding his reputation even if totally innocent.
