The Sabbath has not changed. Christians assemble on the first day of the week, but they do not call that first day Sabbath.

Anyway, Jesus is our rest now. And we rest in Him 24/7

This is not historically accurate. The Reformation and Puritan periods often found Sunday interchangeably referred to as the "the Lord's Day" or "the Christian Sabbath". Today "the Lord's Day" is used by almost all evangelical groups, "the Christian Sabbath" or "Sabbath" are used almost exclusively by Reformed denominations. They draw a distinction between the Sabbath being equal with the Lord's Day against the Sabbath as an Old Covenant observance.

The sabbath was a special sign between God and Israel. (Exodus 31:12-18)

The sabbath belongs to the nation Israel and not to any other people. In addition, the sabbath will be an eternal possession of Israel. (Exodus 31:16)

It does not matter that the Puritans and the Reformers referred to the Lord's Day as the "Christian Sabbath". There is no such thing as a "Christian Sabbath" in Scripture. Israelites in the nation of Israel still keep the sabbath today.

The New Testament believer is not bound to keep the sabbath (Colossians 2:9-17).

I really don't understand why this continues to be an issue. After 2000 years you would think people would remember Colossians 2. :BangHead:

Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. - Col 2:16-17 NASB

It's irrelevant what the reformers or the puritans (Though we can learn much from them) or modern evangelicals call Sunday. The fact is it is NOT a sabbath and there is no sabbath requirement on the people of God today.

    RLBosley,

Was the Sabbath instituted pre or post Mosaic Law?

Do you know what is meant by the Christian Sabbath?

I think you should be more concerned with breaking the 3rd commandment rather than the 4th. Jews were so cautious with the divine name, and you throw it around willy-nilly. I've seen no respect for it, no caution in its use or misuse. And to use the shortened form multiple times in one occasion is strange.

The Sabbath itself was instituted as a part of the Mosaic Law. And yes i understand what is meant by the Christian Sabbath, I think it is a bad name for the day most choose worship.

The sabbath (small "s") was instituted prior to the Mosaic Law.

Exodus 16:23 he said to them, "This is what the Lord has commanded: 'Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord...'"

The Mosaic Law was given between Exodus 19-24. The Old Testament Sabbath (big "S") was given at that time.

A convincing argument can be made that the sabbath was instituted as a creation ordinance.

Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Hebrews 4 points to our ultimate sabbath rest in glory.

Hebrews 4:9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,

I agree that the Christian sabbath is not a biblical term, but that does mean it does not accurately describe a biblical teaching or principle. Those who hold to the Christian sabbath, or the Lord's Day, view the day as one of worship and devotion to God. Since God blessed the sabbath day in the creation narrative, and since it pre-dated the Mosaic Law, those who hold to a high view of the day believe it is binding upon all Christians today. They do not see the day as salvific, nor take a Law view as the Seventh Day Adventists. Baptists who observe the day typically confess the following:

Go a few verses up though and you find this:
"This is what the LORD has commanded... Exd 16:16 NASB

Yes, the word was used, but there is no reference to an instituted sabbath/Sabbath here. All you have is a command regarding the collection of manna. So this whole section is still direct revelation from God to Moses. A proto-sabbath if you will.

I agree of course that the Sabbath was given in Exodus 20 with the rest of the Decalogue. However I think the argument of sabbath from creation is less convincing than you say, and Nehemiah makes that clear.

"Then You came down on Mount Sinai, And spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances and true laws, Good statutes and commandments. "So You made known to them Your holy sabbath, And laid down for them commandments, statutes and law, Through Your servant Moses. - Neh 9:13-14 NASB

The Sabbath was not revealed to the Israelites (fully at least) until Sinai through Moses. The argument from creation is, at best, flimsy. While yes God rested, and He does use that later on as a basis for the Israeli Sabbath, the Lord never commands in Genesis that Adam or anyone pre-Mosaic Law should rest on that day. The text is silent about the issue.

    I agree wholeheartedly

I do not confess the London Baptist Confession of Faith so I naturally disagree with it's findings here. Again, I find the evidence for a pre-Mosaic law sabbath flimsy at best.

Worship on Sunday is not binding on all Christians. That is nowhere to be seen and I believe Col 2 flatly contradicts the idea. The only Biblical reference to "the Lord's Day" is in Revelation 1, and that passage doesn't really tell us anything about what John is referring to.

    RLBosley,

Just giving a different perspective than what is generally held by those on the BB. Happy to let our distinctions stand on their merits.

    Have a blessed day.

Understood. I wasn't trying to be argumentative; if I gave you that impression I apologize. I've read the arguments that you presented (as recently as yesterday :D) and can appreciate the perspective. I just am not convinced.

May the Lord bless you as well brother. :godisgood:

It didn't get changed from Saturday to Sunday. It got changed from Saturday to Christ.

The Sabbath was an illustration of the rest we have in Christ. Now that Christ has come, we have no more need of the illustration because we have the real thing. Our rest is no longer in a day of the week, but in Christ and He has become our Sabbath.

Did Yah give the authority to change what he has called an holy day unto himself ??

Did Yah give Constantine the authority to change that day as he did---and to kill the ones who still held that the authority of Yah was greater than man by still keeping the Sabbath Holy ?

There is NO scriptural authority for the Sabbath to be changed given by Yah.
even after the death, resurrection and ascension of Yeshua they still held to keeping the Sabbath---they knew Yah's authority was still the same--

So why did some man change what the authority of Yah had made.

Don't give some man made fabric idea's of it being right to change it.

Give plain scripture for the support of Yah changing the Sabbath to the 1st day of the week instead of the 7th(Saturday)
