Safe Storage Problems

I'm not sure all of what my church does to safeguard the kids.

You might want to ask this on the Awana Forums at Awana's website at www.awana.org They have a pretty good forum site there too, with lots of folks asking and helping to answer questions directly related to Awana clubs.

A church should treat these chemicals the way that industrial site do. For every chemical that you can purchase, the manufacturer must supply you with an MSDS sheet (Material Safety Data Sheet). From these sheets you can gleam how to properly store the chemicals.

At a minimum, harmful chemicals should be kept in a secure location out of reach of those who are not authorized to access them.

Given the nature of a Baptist church, I understand the difficult in making this happen. But then, given the nature of Baptist church members today, if there is an accident that results in an injury, the legal ramifications for the church and church leadership could be devastating.

 

We keep our cleaning stuff in a closet in the fellowship hall. Although, it does get really annoying when someone moves the vaccum, or the Windex! {the last time the vaccum was missing, I found it in the girls bathroom! Go figure!
THe really dangerous stuff is kept on the top shelves, and we don't intentionaly let the little ones in there in the first place, but some kids have that curiosity thing..." Don't stick your tounge in the electric socket! No, Don't do it! SZZZZIT! "See? I told you!"

We lock the stuff up.

 

Alot of churches and community halls tend to have some kitchen cupboards locked, for this purpose.

You know the politics about who pays for the different groups coffee

 

we have a steel cabinet with locking doors in the storage room which also is locked.
