Sorry, Ben. You didn't really expect us to take this seriously, did you? Perhaps you should try it out with the Thinking Baoptist crowd who don't mind slaughtering the unborn. I am quite sure they will show more sympathy toward your pig who can shed tears.

Ben, I care. The way the industry treats chickens is appalling, too. What motivates all of this is Corporate Greed.

We used to raise pigs when I was a kid, there are still some farms with naturally raised free-range pigs. These animals are not mistreated and taste so much better too!

My husband and brother both used to work in the chicken factory(processing plant) for Con-Agra(makes Banquet frozen foods), it is awful. I wouldn't say we need to be vegetarians, but that they should have some standards against abuse of the animals.
And we are having babe for Christmas dinner too.

 

Ben, it's fighting a lost cause.

So long as the demand for cheap, readily available meat remains as high as it is, we're going to have factory farms and slaughter houses that only care about how fast it can process an animal, not how well it treats the animals it is raising/slaughtering.

We have to also look at the overall picture. If we raise the end cost of meat in order to treat the animals more humanely, how many people will go hungry because they can't afford it.

Most women here don't know where thier hormone supplements come from. It is also a process that could be considered inhumane. But we have to weigh human suffering against animal suffering.

So how far do you suggest we go?

 

Ben W, I will say this: even livestock destined for the slaughterhouse need to be treated humanely while they draw breath. I am against unnecessary cruelty for any creature.

We could get a long way into this discussion, but suffice it to say that anyone charged with taking the life of an animal should do it quickly and efficiently - so as to avoid suffering.

I would expect that from the person I buy beef from, and I expect it from myself when I hunt wild game. It's a tremendous responsibility.

 

Yes, we should. I have considered going vegetarian, not from the standpoint of mistreatment so much as from what we are putting into our bodies from the mass production process. I am definately a meat and potatoes type; however, I believe that we are starting to see the results of the "Happy Meal" era. I didn't miss a single day of school during elementary school, and very little during secondary school, but I cannot count how many times we took our kids to the Doctor's for ear infections, strep throat, etc., etc.. As a kid, my family couldn't afford to buy much meat, so our primary protein source was from tons of vegetables, especially good ol' beans. Although Daniel was more concerned with the consumption of pork (probably) and wine, I still believe we can take a valuable lesson from his purpose.

God provided many animals as meat for us.

Don't get me wrong...I don't sanction nor practice deliberately inflicting pain or torture upon any animal...but I'm a hunter and omnivore as God made us to be.

And to me, ONE PERSON is more important than is all the animal life on earth.

 

I would encourage all animal rights activists to go vegetarian...more meat for me...

Consider the "Kosher" method for slaughtering animals for food - quick and as painless as possible. So even God cares.

 

I don't think the Kosher method includes pork. But, you do make a good point otherwise there.

I am vegetarian, and have been since 1977. Of course, at that time, I was an animal rights activist along with with being a pantheist.

Although I am no longer an animal rights activist, and I think it's okay for people to eat meat, the animal industry does have cruel practices. I lost my taste for meat when I discovered what goes on many years ago.

I think it is unchristian and unbibilical to be cruel to animals. There is no biblical justification fo cruelty.

 

I love meat and it loves me. LOL At least it sticks with me. Lots of veggies give me gall bladder pains and irritate my tummy.

I have a lot of problems with people who spout off about cruelty to animals yet condone an unborn human baby's brains being sucked out. I would like to spray paint all of "them" with red paint. I even hear that there are some of them who call themselves Christian. Remember, Pro Choice is Pro Death for human babies.

I think animals should be killed as quickly as as painless as possible.

 

Define mistreatment. If mistreatment means slaughtering animals for consumption, then I'd say ya don't have a leg to stand on with me, especially considering the fact that I had two kids in 4-H. OTOH, if you're referring to proper care of animals in general, then I'd be in agreement with that.

Personally, I love pigs. Especially at a luau.
