Baptist Press ❧ Iorg exhorts renewed financial cooperation, urges rejection of ‘expressive individualism’

The Convention's Treasurer Jeff Iorg "said Cooperative Program giving is suffering", with churches "omitting certain entities" from their giving "and directing gifts to other entities".

Churches wanting to designate their giving are following the "the cultural trend of 'expressive individualism'." According to Iorg, expressive individualism also underlies ideas like children being able to "choose their gender". "'It is the worldview which demands mass customization and, at the same time, fuels aggressive tribalism,' Iorg said."

"He encouraged Southern Baptists to reaffirm what he called 'the messiness of cooperation' as the SBC becomes 'more geographically, racially, economically and politically diverse. We must reaffirm cooperation,' he said, 'and then see funding it through one channel – the Cooperative Program'."

I believe most of the giving should be directed towards the ministry where God has placed the church.

South Korea sends more missionaries per population than any other country. The US is not even in the top 5 for sending (per population). And other countries are focusing on sending missionaries to the US because they view the US as "Christian" in tradition only.

I am not saying stop supporting foreign missions. I am sayinh to also be faithful where you are.

Which entities are suffering? Since he “reaffirms” how it is getting more diverse, a word that I link with poor biblical judgment in these times, I think his statement would make me consider directing my giving where it should go.
But if that really was the case, I would not be able to attend the same woke church that was having trouble funding diversity.

Just my take on a vague statement. I might have misunderstood.

Erlc is one which needs to go away

Many newer and smaller conventions feel underserved

Personally I see churches and self as doing missions in a way to get resources directly those who need them, but I do not recommend it for everyone

We help churches in Africa, india and minutely in other areas. Jmo
