School OKs Muslim Holiday

Well... if it's a public school... I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. They do let students off for specifically Christian holidays.


All the more reason to support private schools and homeschooling if you ask me.

 

Jewish students have been able to take days off for Jewish holidays for a long time, if I were to guess it would have been for the greater part of the 20th century.

In Toronto, Muslims students taking time off for Ramadan and other significant holy days for other religions has been accepted practice for several decades.

I guess Tampa doesn't have many people of other religions.

 

When I was working as a courier in the DC metro area, I was disturbed to be in a Muslim majority public school in VA in which they permitted public prayer time for the Muslims. I suppose it was for "diversity".

 

Can you imagine Christian students being permitted public prayer time?

 

So what do you think would be fair?

 

It doesn't matter what I think is fair. Wonder why no outcry from ACLU and liberals about the "wall of separation?" Guess it only applies to Christians.

 

I say the only fair thing to do is do away with holidays altogether. We're not generating wealth for the elite on all these days we take off to be lazy.

 

Please, just tell me which you think would be fairer: public prayer time for Christians as well, or no prayer time in school at all?

 

If it's a public school, and they want to enforce the so-called separation of church and state, then I don't think it's even arguable: No sanctioned prayer time in school at all.

(Now, this does not even entertain my opinion about the separation issue, this simply confronts their words with their actions.)

 

What I think? The only prayer that should be allowed in public schools are Christian prayers. And that is what I really think.

The question now is, who would decide what denomination and who would decide what constitutes a Christian?

No, the ACLU has gone to bat for Christians who were not permitted to pray or read their Bibles at school. They say schools should neither inhibit nor encourage prayer - it should be up to the individual student.

It sounds like the school is permitting the prayers which the Moslem faith requires rather than sponsoring or leading them. One nonreligious benefit of that style of praying is with all the standing and bowing, those students will get the blood flowing to the noggin again.

Of course, a problem could arise if the Rasti students claim that being stoned is part of their religious practice and try to claim ganja breaks.

 

Moslims have to pray 5 times a day. However they can play catch up, performing missed prayers at a later time in the day.
Allowing moslimstudents to pray during schoolhours is more of a courtesy than a requirement.
