Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ.
How do we know who is "in Christ" and how does a person become "in Christ" or "born again"? According to scripture.
Are organizations that call themselves "Christian" actually false if they teach a rebirth contrary to scripture? Can one be wrong on this and still be a true Christian?
Over the years while debating with other "Christians" I have found basically three doctrines held by professing Christians, not in any particular order:
1) One is born again when one hears the Gospel and God quickens their spirit causing one to believe Jesus is the Son of God. This would be more of the Calvinistic approach.
2) One is born again when one hears the Gospel, is drawn and convinced by the Holy Spirit Jesus is the Son of God and the person calls upon Jesus to be forgiven and saved at which time one's spirit is then quickened. This would involve a "sinners prayer", just something as simple as the publican Jesus spoke of.
3) One is born again when one is baptized with water. Has nothing to do with any of the above. A baby baptized in water is born again.
Blessings!
