This is an area I have always enjoyed, but I also procrastinate doing it. Do you memorize scripture on a regular basis? If so, which ones are you doing?

The best thing is to joing up with someone else who will hold you accountable. Over the years I have often used Bible studies as a time for accountability. I require them to memorize one verse each week. At the start of the Bible study I go around the room and each person quotes their verse.

I am part of a Bible Study that starts back tomorrow after our Christmas break. We learn passages pertaining to our study, and say them every week. I enjoy the accountability, because it's embarrassing to not know your verse! Keeps me motivated!

I grew up using the KJV and memorized all my texts from that version. Problem is, I often paraphrased the verses. correcting mistakes or changed English in the text, and that is what I remember to this day.

I went to an Anglican public (private on this side of the pond) school and we had to memorize the entire Gospel of John. I guess that was a beginning, but it sure pays off now in my senior years.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I was in a Bible study class on Sunday evenings a few years ago, when the teacher would require us to memorize certain verses each week as part of the study course. At the beginning of each class, we were given a piece of paper and had to write down the verse(s).

At the end of the Bible study, we had to write them all!

Of course, if people didn't memorize them as well as others, no one was made to feel bad for it and no one was "praised" for doing a better job than the rest of the class.

But I will tell you, having to memorize the scripture made the study course more meaningful.

I haven't been actively memorizing any passages lately.

    Peace-
    S.O.

I just finished Ephesians this week, and I will work on reciting it for a few months before I move on.
