  • Police have been unable to respond to “rapes, robberies, and all sorts of violent acts” occurring in Seattle’s East Precinct, which authorities abandoned on Monday, leaving the area in the hands of activists who set up their own police-free “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ), Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said Thursday.
The police chief is now working on a plan to reopen the precinct, telling reporters calls for service “have more than tripled.”

OK Revmitchell.

With your military background and experience, let's just assume that the president may call you up and tell you that you are now in charge of retaking Seattle and rescuing the citizens who are now under seige. The entire U.S. military is at your disposal.
How are you going to do it? You may wish to consult with Salty on this one.

Send in the specially trained crowd control troops, Unit 737. They do not use firearms, just the "slash and thrust" technique which is very effective in these type of situations.cohort.jpg

Impressive. I guess it is up to you and me, Adonia, to save western civilization. No one else seems interested at this point.

In my mind, I was thinking that special ops types could gradually filter into the area, driving rental cars, no more than two in a car. In order to avoid suspicion, they could disguise themselves as women, maybe even hookers (Clyde Barrow used to do it, driving all over Dallas dressed like a woman while being one of the nation's ten most wanted). At a given time, the power grid could be taken off line for a few hours during the night and electronic communications could be interrupted, giving the rescuers time to arm and move into place. When the power comes back on, bus loads of regulars could go in to surround the affected area and provide back-up for the special op troops. I would imagine that a lot of house to house searches would have to happen. Troops would need to have authority to fire on rioters in order to be effective. Tear gas and rubber bullets could be used unless they proved to be ineffective.

It would be an awful mess because of the danger posed to innocents. Protesters who provide cover for violent offenders are not to be considered innocent.

Logistical support for the troops is another matter. Food, sanitation, and supplies...how on earth would that be handled in the heart of a big city?

Am I serious about all this? Just take it with a grain of salt. I am just trying think of how I would retake a urban stronghold from armed dissenters.

Since the cops chickened out and split, the ANG or regular military has to step in. I'm concerned about SeaTac and Bremerton, myself.

They did so only on the orders of the feckless Mayor. The police chief Carmen Best, who wanted to continue to stay engaged and who has a backbone, needs to run for Mayor.

Bremerton is across Puget Sound from Seattle. SeaTac is 11 miles south and is well outside the jurisdiction of the Seattle PD.

The area would be extremely easy to take given the proper rules of engagement.
