SEATTLE — Faced with growing pressure to crack down on an “occupied” protest zone following two weekend shootings, Seattle’s mayor said Monday that officials will move to wind down the blocks-long span of city streets taken over two weeks ago that President Donald Trump asserted is run by “anarchists.”

Mayor Jenny Durkan said the violence was distracting from changes sought by thousands of peaceful protesters opposing racial inequity and police brutality. She said at a news conference that the city is working with the community to bring the “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest” zone, or CHOP, to an end and that police soon would move back into a precinct building they had largely abandoned in the area.

Why dismantle Utopia? Why dismantle the love and peace zone?

She has said in the past that she would negotiate with the occupiers to see to their removal. The "occupiers" said they weren't going anywhere, that they would have to be removed by force. So unless she has changed her and that she will now use force to remove them, it simply is not going to happen.

The police need to have the mayor and city council walk in front of them when they go in to retake CHOP.

You mean they should face the same firing squad the police will when retaking the city from these domestic terrorist insurgents?

Still waiting. I haven't heard any news reports today that the occupation is now over, did I miss something?

Another day has ended and I believe the occupation is still going on. Hey Mayor Durkin, not having much success in your negotiations I see.

And here we are, Monday the 27th of June and the occupation continues. I thought this was going to be ended last week? Mayor Durkin, where are you?

I saw on the news city workers tried but were turn away by a man brandishing a handgun. No arrests.

Peace to you

The woman (Mayor Durkin) is kidding herself that this will end without violence. The occupiers will not go voluntarily and the City Council has decreed that non-lethal means cannot be used by the police, the only group that in the end can force these people out. The Mayor and the City Council members are incompetent fools who have let this thing get way out of hand. This is a good example of why people should not vote for Democrats.

No, she hasn't done anything about CHOP, just big talk with no follow through. I think Sawant wants her job:

Protesters march to Seattle Mayor Durkan's house as 'CHOP' scene continues

her official statement is pathetic:

"Seattle has a long tradition of peaceful protest and advocacy for progressive change, and Mayor Durkan strongly supports those rights. Mayor Durkan will continue to listen to leaders in Seattle's Black community. She is working hard to translate the calls for change into real, tangible systemic changes to policing and all the other systems needed for strong and healthy communities. She has prioritized these as Mayor, with investments in housing, education, youth opportunity, and economic equity. She proposes investing an additional $100 million into the Black community.

Mayor Durkan and her family are in the state program to keep their address confidential because of the death threats mostly related to her work as Seattle's U.S. Attorney under President Obama. Instead of working to make true change, Councilmember Sawant continues to choose political stunts. Tonight she did so without regard for the safety of the Mayor and her family. The Mayor was not even home - she was working at City Hall. Seattle can and should peacefully demonstrate but should not put families and children at risk."

Yeah, thanks a lot Obama, he made Jenny's career and then there was a perfect storm. For Seattle, she is just left of center. like her predecessor, who was also gay. He was also accused of child molestation, including one of his own foster sons, so he dropped out of his re-election campaign and endorsed Jenny, so they wouldn't have Sawant as mayor or some other big BLM supporter. If you have an hour to kill, many here saw this coming years ago:

She is way over her head and out of her league with this bunch.

Well, here it is, Wednesday July 1st, the occupied zone has been all cleared I presume and everything is back to normal. Is that a correct assumption? Mayor Durkan? Governor Insley?

Maybe there'll be some fireworks July 4th.

I just saw the news, Mayor Durkan has indeed issued an Executive Order for the police to clear the area and they have. Armed with long batons, they easily routed the occupiers. I guess she didn't like them showing up at her house the other day and that was the final straw.
