Second day this year off for ice/snow .....

.... and there ain't no ice nor snow!!! :BangHead:

The National Weather Service scared us all to death ... is was like a panic in the grocery stores last night and we are all at home today looking at nothing but freezing temps, gray skies, and a few watery puddles.

I could be teaching math right now!!! :BangHead:

 

Well, I think one reason people are getting panicky here is because we have NEVER had a wintery season this cold and wet in decades.

We've had several days of temps in the 15-19 degree range since Christmas. And some of November - December - while not that cold was very cold 25-40 with much wind and dampness.

I know that doesn't sound terrible to some, but it's AWFUL for us who aren't accustomed to it.

And it's wet here and terribly windy. That wet and windy cold on days far below the freezing point is unnerving to us. We aren't used to it.

We are still under a severe winter storm "warning" until early tomorrow morning.

 

You have no idea how true your words are.

People here, including myself, have so much trouble when roads ice over. We just don't know how to maneuver in it - especially the black ice.

I'm talking multiple car pile ups, slips-down on your own carport, broken bones, dead plants, and more. We just don't know how to deal with it.

I would rather be safe than sorry and frankly, the chief of school bus routes confers with the superintendent and the sheriff's department to make these calls.

We'll just have to make-up our lessons when we go back.

 

I spoke about 9 hours too soon!!!!

Electricity just came back on after about 12 hours off. Ice everywhere. About 25 degrees and although melting a little - predicted to re-freeze overnite.

Huge red oak down in my back yard. Will wait for warmer weather and hire someone to take care of that. A blessing it didn't hit anything. :godisgood:

 

In bed last night? Several homemade quilts my grandmother sewed decades ago. Normally they stay displayed on quilt racks.

This morning and partial afternoon? Stayed at my parents who have gas heater in the living room - but no electricity to blow it so we all stayed in the living room.

...and good wool socks!
