5-minute read that will shock you. Story of 2,000,000 Russians p.o.w.'s who did not want to be under communism or return to USSR in May 1945. Many in Britain and Fort Dix, New Jersey.

They were drugged, beaten, lied to and forced to return and all - 100% - were then executed by the Soviets.

The image that Hitler/Nazis were the bad guys and the Allies/Uncle Joe were the good guys had to be kept up (for a few years). And the US/Britain kept their hands "clean" by simply sending back these men to their slaughter.

Where is a war-crime tribunal for that?

There's not one because we won. I don't agree with it and find it one of the dumbest things America has ever done. I personally think we should have turned right around and attacked Russia. We didn't have to worry about them having the nukes yet and we already had an army over there.

Truman should've just turned Patton loose on 'em. No cold war. No lies. No communism. Fewer deaths. But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

    Landon said:

They had any army too, which was bigger than ours. And we had precious few nukes, not enough to cow the Russians into submission. After all, considering what they'd been through, it would have been no more than harassment.

Western Europe was exhausted by the war, so the brunt would have fallen upon the United States.

The Russians would have had the advantage of interior lines of supply and communication from its factories; supplies from the States would have to travel across the Atlantic.

And exactly what would have defeating the Russian army (assuming it could be done) have achieved? Would we have gone to Moscow? Lots of armies have regretted that. Would we have annexed Russian territory? The Third Reich paid the price for that.

The whole thing, in my view, is silly revisionism. Yes, it would have been nice to have rid the world of the communist regime, but I doubt there was the stomach for it, or, better yet, the understanding that trying to conquer the Soviet Union by military means was a fool's game (as Hitler proved.)

At least we learned the lesson. After the Korean War, demands for forced repatriation were rejected.

Wasn't it Patton who suggested re-arming the Wehrmacht and using them to help us destroy Russia?

He was a loose canon, but right on that one. Tens of millions died in Eastern Europe (to say nothing of the dominoe effect in China and SE Asia) from allowing the USSR to become a super power.

The USSR WAS a superpower at the end WWII by the facts on the ground. The US and the USSR were the big dogs, and there is nothing we could have done about that. Both the US and USSR had the population and the industrial capacity to be superpowers.

Would the USA be willing to spend the blood and treasure necessary to roll back the Soviets when it thought it had won the war?

    I don't think so.

Industrial capacity? Then why wasn't Russia supplying itself? Why did the US and Britain have to keep pouring supplies into the Eastern front? Russia would've signed a cease-fire if we hadn't because they couldn't keep up the war effort.

Let me see if I understand your point here. Hitler and the Nazis were the good guys and America and the allies were the ones burning the Jews alive in ovens and gassing them in New York. Does that just about cover it?

Joseph, I am astounded at your reply!

The good guys won the war, that is US. We wrote the history because we were the winners.

That is not to say that the good guys or the winners are lily white. Bad things were perpetuated by the Allies and we just never ever hear about it!!!!!

Jews were NOT the only ones in the holocaust, there were Gypsies, Homosexuals, Mentally Disabled/ Ill, Catholics, Slavic, and political opponents of the Third Reich. Yes the Jewish People made up the bulk of the persecuted but please do not gloss over the rest.

Jbot - sometimes I wonder about you!! [IMG]

Hitler/Germans were the enemy. But so was USSR but we were duped into believing them as allies and "good guys".

More Christians were killed by Stalin than Jews killed by Hitler. Just pointing out there was more than ONE holocaust . . .

They were allies in that particular war against Germany & Japan, primarily. Enemy of my enemy ... doesn't make 'em good, just useful.
