Secular people scare me

I realized this today. The way they think - frightens me.

In the prayer section I posted a link asking for prayer for people in Boca Raton, FL where a truck ran over a bus with 25 migrant children on it.

I posted the same prayer request on a secular board. Now, I 1/2 expected someone to complain about prayer - but I'm not the only Christian reading the boards and I don't listen to people who complain about prayer anyway - but....

I did NOT expect someone to tell me that they didn't think we should care about that when soldiers were dieing. As if, somehow - the war in Iraq means we should stop caring about the kids at home.

This time last year I was working with a bunch of flat out CRUEL secular people who thought their life's calling was to get people fired. They did things like write a single woman up for "staying late at work," and for "complimenting clients". She would say, "My you look lovely today," and they told her that implied the person didn't ALWAYS look lovely. In the lounge they would complain she didn't dress well enough to make them feel professional. She was clean, modest. Just wore what my grandmother would have called "homespun" vs "Neiman Marcus" . They fired her, causing her to lose her home and end up in a shelter with her son. But they bragged about their compassion.

    They frighten me.

Why do they frighten you? BTW, what is the name of the secular board on which you post? Is it part of the Secular Web they call the Internet Infidels?

No. Never heard of "Internet Infidels."
The board is a discussion board for things like political debate, and receipe sharing.

And the absolute lack of compassion frightens me.

Yeah I know what you mean. But really it shouldn't suprise us knowing they are the devils own. Then again, people always amaze me.

What frightens me most is Christians who seem to think the rest of the world ought to think and behave as if they were saved.

Just another indicator that people will wax worse and worse as the day approaches.

Secular people don't scare me. At least I know where they stand.

You hit the nail on the head, Jim. I think is actually refreshing, at times, to be with lost folks. It reminds from whence I have come.

TexasSky, don't make the mistake of thinking all secular people have no compassion. Like I mentioned in an earlier thread, I have an atheist coworker who is a kind and compassionate person. Would you want to be judged by the actions of an unkind Christian. People are all different, You cannot lump them all together. Look at people as individuals.

Sad part is that when working retail it was not just the secular people that were cutting and backstabbing, but many were also Christians :)

May I be blunt? There are some people on this Baptist Board who scare me sometimes. And I didn't say that to make a joke.

There are some people in my church whose scare me.

And to be perfectly honest, sometimes when I am allowing God to reveal my sin to me so that I can confess and repent, I scare myself. God revealed to me one day just how wretched I am compared to what I thought I was.

God's not playing around. The secular world will always disgust Him. But I really think that Christians need to get a grip on their own short-comings that prevent us from the glorifying of God.

That's what we need to be afraid of.

And if you can't think of any, right off hand....that's really scary.

    Peace-
    Scarlett O.

"Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." Exodus 14:13,14

    Agree, Scarlett

    exscentric, this is so true.

I used to own a retail business, and a customer who was being unreasonable called one of my employees who was doing his best to help her, She started calling him the foulest names and using expletives, including one beginning with the letter "F". All the while she had on her employee badge from a huge evangelical megachurch in the neighborhood. Isn't that a nice witness?

Not only that, but everytime this woman would come in, she would be rude and mean to everyone around her.

    Scarlett,

I agree with every word your wrote.

That said - I certain don't "avoid" secular people. In fact, I think a few people on this board disapprove of the fact that I witness to those who are hostile to Christ, or that I defend forgiving and loving.

With Christians who frighten me, I know that eventually Christ in them will correct their heart. The secular aren't listening to Christ.

In the last 3 years, my husband and I have been cheated out of pay from a number of companies or groups which all claimed to be Christians. One 'fella' got away with over $20,000 in commissions! His atty. had a fancy web page proclaiming himself to be so active for God. Since the 'corporation' was in another state, Jim traveled several times trying to collect through small claims. We got $3,000, finally. The latest was a choral group in the next town that didn't pay Jim the $500. they owed him because they didn't sell enough tickets to their Easter/ Spring performances.

Honestly, as a Christian, I try to go out of my way to honor what I promised I'd do. Even when a mom cut my daycare pay by 1/2 to $45. a week when her older daughter started riding the bus home, I finished out the school year, picking up her son, feeding him snacks and giving him supper one night a week, driving him home to help her out several times, keeping him longer hours if he was sick or on days there was no school, which worked out to $1.30 an hour... because I had committed to doing this for the full school year.

It makes me very sad when christians (little c intended) damage the 'name' of true followers by their actions. [IMG]

    Amen Diane!

I am sorry that you went through that, and I am glad that you spoke up about a Christian needing to keep their word.

    Just wondering:

What does it say to an unbelieving highway patrolman who stops a Christian for speeding when that Christian is driving a car that sports all kinds of "Christian" bumper stickers?

My brother in law was a police officer who was not a Christian at the time when he stopped a pastor for speeding. The pastor told him that God was going to get him because he pulled over the pastor. My brother in law told him that God will get him if he runs over a child in the street while speeding.
