Recently I ran across a quote from an ancient church father regarding the music of his day. Basically, he thought it was from hell. To read the quote you would think he was some pastor talking about some of the more up-to-date music that is used today. I have searched for the quote but haven't found it. Can anyone help me?

There are many of them. Any specifics you can remember?

You're probably thinking of Clement of Alexandria. Here's a link:

"For if people occupy their time with pipes, and psalteries, and choirs, and dances, and Egyptian clapping of hands, and such disorderly frivolities, they become quite immodest and intractable, beat on cymbals and drums, and make a noise on instruments of delusion; for plainly such a banquet, as seems to me, is a theatre of drunkenness.
