Seeking Forgiveness

If you have sinned against a person, I've been told that you really aren't completely forgiven of that sin until you not only are forgiven by God, but also by that person against whom you've sinned.

Two questions arise:

1. If the person against whom you've sinned does not forgive you, are you completely forgiven of that sin?

2. Does this also apply to so-called "sins of the heart" (such as outlined on Matthew 5:21-28), i.e., must you also seek forgiveness from the brother with whom you were angry and/or the woman toward which you have lusted if either sin went no further than "the heart"?

If you have sought out the person that you have wronged and have asked for their forgiveness then you have done as you are commanded and forgiveness is up to them. If they choose not to forgive you that is own them and not on you.

Being forgiven by God and being forgiven by man are not the same thing. Being truly forgiven means being forgiven by God and this means your sin is no longer counted against you. Of course, this can only come through faith in Christ.

Not being forgiven by a person doesn't keep you from being forgiven by God. I see them as 2 separate things, and I disagree with the belief that you are not completely forgiven unless the person you sinned against forgives you. What if the person you sinned against is dead and you don't realize the sin against them until after their death? You can't get forgiveness from them.

If God forgives you (and the Bible tells us He will, through Christ, if we confess), then you are forgiven.

Who told you this and where did they find this in Scripture?
