Enabling laws by any other name are still enabling laws. Hitler would approve.

It does set limits. But that's not good enough. The original Patriot Act set limits, and Bush just ignored them.

We need to keep a much better eye on him.

Specifically, what has Bush done to you or Poncho that has changed your life or taken away any of your rights? Please be specific.

I cannot answer this question directly or specifically because I think the question is based on a faulty presupposition.

George Bush has done nothing but catapult volumes of propaganda for public consumption and act as an agent for international business interests and foreign powers while maintaining an air of legitmacy of office dependent on a population of citizens unwilling or unable to learn the historical lessons of the devices used by past tyrants and their vassals to bring order out of chaos by first causing and manipulating that chaos to bring about a desired change in societal norms, laws and the consolidation of wealth and power into the hands of a few.

He has acted only in accordance and in league with the dictates of those with interests other than that of the people of the United States to bring them into compliance with the wishes of and under the rule of unelected international elitist rulers by subterfuge, deception and secrecy carried out with the help of a complicit media of the same elitist ownership.

That includes engineering the consent of the people to willing go along with financing with blood and treasure an internationalist and foreign imperial pursuit while using our military strength in the name of liberty, honor and love of country and to trade our liberty for their security of a total big brother surveillence state under false pretences drawn up and carried out by the artifices of false and designing men.

    American Patriot Samuel Adams.

Other than that Phillip everything is as it should be. [IMG]

Did you get a chance to read the declassified Northwoods document yet?

He has declared that he can suspend my right to due process, and all he has to do is say he thinks I'm in league with terrorists. You might have asked Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in 1939 what exactly had Stalin done to him.

Nothing. Except make it possible to suspend his right to due process. The rest came later. The Soviet Constitution granted the same rights ours does. But the state could suspend them as deemed necessary.

To make the terror work, Stalin didn't have to put all Soviet citizens in concentration camps. Not most of them. Not even a large fraction of them. The knowledge that he could, for any reason, or even no reason at all was sufficient.

We have become more like them. And that, whether it affects any particular one of us or not, is sufficient to be alarmed and hostile to any such attempt on our liberties.

I am grateful to the real patriots, republicans and democrats who managed to remove some of the worst abuses from the law. But we have a lot of work left to do.

So, "The Galatian" you are assuming that your right of due process no longer exists? Then would you PLEASE be specific about how your right of due process has been suspended?

Would you also like to explain to me the odds of you winding up in a concentration camp in the next ten years and if so, why will you wind up in such a camp? (What will the charges be?)

I believe I could have named most of these without even seeing the list. Most of the leftist kooks are there, but a few notables are missing.

Like the old Soviet Union, I have a right to due process, unless the government objects.

The government claims the right to declare American citizens enemies, and to incarcerate them without due process.

Much better than it was ten years ago. Ten years ago, no one had the power to do it. As I pointed out, Stalin didn't put everyone in concentration camps, either. He just made it clear that he could do it to anyone if he wanted to.

And there's no point in asking about charges, because Bush claims that charges don't have to be filed. I'm grateful that Congress at least blunted some of the more egregious provisions of the act.

I agree, Stalin set up an invisible concentration camp in the minds of the people. A mental panopticon ("sentiment of an invisible omniscience") to keep the people from dissenting and "going along with the system to get along in the system".

Same as what is happening on a high tech global scale today. These same laws are being passed everywhere, the cameras and biometric id systems are going in national id's are being ok'd tracking systems like OnStar will be able to pinpoint your location and also serve as a way to keep track of those milage taxes that have been proposed, RFID chips are being glorified and pushed on us, etc.

In other words we're being told behave, act accordingly, don't ask questions, conform, obey, big brother is always watching you and he has the power to make your life miserable.
