Senator Harry Reid and pro-Miers Conservatives

Senator Reid's agreement with some pro-life conservatives about Ms. Miers is not strange at all. I imagine Senator Reid understands that there is not much of a paper trail that the pro-abortionists can seize upon to cause a big stink about Ms. Miers. Therefore, even if he knows that she will be more conservative than Justice O'Connor there isn't much he can do about it without some written evidence to use against her.

Clearly, some on the Left are just as disappointed as some on the Right that they can't have a political war over this nomination. I think that other than the Ivy League snobbery of folks like David Frum and Bill Kristol that this lost opportunity to have a politically bloody war over this nomination is what really bothers a lot of the conservative naysayers about Ms. Miers.

I think it is best to have Ms. Miers confirmed so that the Senate can move on to other equally important matters - such as our well over half a trillion dollar yearly federal budget deficit.
